The Weir letters
Attached are the two letters, one sent by the Ken Weir recallers, the other sent by Weir. I fact-checked both, but the post was eaten. Rar. So let me just say, the recallers use "detractors" incorrectly, and the idea of this being a "well-planned conspiracy" makes me giggle. I will retype one point, and that's about the comparison of property rights as defended by Weir vs. Westpark. Weir wanted to protect Gordon Downs from having his land taken without compensation; the Westpark people will be compensated if they lose their home. So it's not like he's being a big hypocrite by supporting the study. On the other hand, the Westpark residents are, well, residents; Downs had just bought his land to subdivide and sell, not to "protect, use and enjoy." 6 comments from 5 users

Thanks for posting both letters so we can read both. You are correct that the correlation between Westpark and the position Weir has taken regarding Gordon Downs is weak. I would also like to not that the recall Wier camp seems rather inconsistant on the issue of Russell Johnson. Sometimes they say it is not why they are attempting a recall and others they list it as a primary reason to recall Weir and give Johnson praise as the hero of the community.

What if Downs was not a former client or friend of Ken Weir and is opinion was the same. Would this be such a huge issue then. What if the property was your property in question and not Downs, would you be happy if a planning commissioner voted to take your property away regardless of what you were going to use it for. The fact is that Ken Weir would fight for the same rights regardless of who the property owner is. Why isn't anyone complaing about the people who are currently using that property for recreational purposes are breaking the law by tresspassing on private property. posted by

I have to agree that the people who are currently using the land are trespassing. I remember all of the nasty pollution that the dirt bike riders have added to our beautiful air quality. I think regardless of who owns the land, those rights will be protected by Weir. I'm glad it was finally pointed out that there is a difference between the Westpark issue and the Down's property issue. While the conspiracy may be a stretch, there is definitely something fishy with the recall people/unions! posted by

Pup...Maybe the city should take your property and not compensate you for it. You wouldn't mind, right? Weir supports private property rights, yet you don't like him. And...unless your registered voting address is a dirt lot, no, you can't sign anything for ward 3. Hope that helps! posted by
