Hello McCoy, b'bye Russell
The smooth-yet-subtexty council meeting ended later than expected, mostly due to a long closed session. Most interesting was the lack of fireworks over two items: Weir's planning commission pick and the hillside ordinance EIR. Maybe it's fitting or symbolic or (fill in the blank) that both were on the same agenda and both wrapped up with little ado, at least publicly. After all, they share the same Canyons/Maggard/Weir/Abernathy/Downs/etc backstory. That chapter is just about over. The Canyons EIR has yet to get the council's OK, but it sailed through the planning commission without a stir. A few fun items popped up during council comments: • Sue Benham asked staffers for action and follow-up on a letter sent by school kids to public works director Raul Rojas A YEAR AGO (and apparently never answered). The kids' request eventually made its way to I'll-take-care-of-that Supervisor Michael Rubio (whose office is taking care of it). I didn't catch everything, but it has to do with curbs and gutters or something similar. Benham didn't specifically direct staffers to write an apology, but requested a nice letter, ahem, be sent to the school. • Jacquie Sullivan asked about dead-dog pickup on the weekends. One apparently sat awhile in her ward recently. • Alan Tandy earned a "favorable" performance evaluation, Mayor Hall reported after closed session, though one without a raise or more benefits. (Quiet, Lois...)

So what's to comment on? The appointment of a skewed real estate and development land use political lackey controlled by hyper private land use fanatics, and the politically expedient Council blink at the canyons eir. Nobody but a few care. Bako business as usual posted by

Awe, poor "little" Johnson was replaced by Haddock by UNANIMOUS vote of the City Council. There is plenty to comment on. Let's see… Oh, how about the fact Johnson works for County Supervisor Mike Maggard, who led the City of The court records indicate Maggard only asked city staff to fence off the bike path using the lame excuse the city needed to protect the bicyclists from motorists. Oops, what about the adjoining landowners rights? Since when do bicyclists’ rights trump private landowner and the general public access rights? According to the January 2009 Court ruling, they don’t. If it were not for the fact there are bike lanes right next to high volume traffic on major roadways in the City of Bakersfield (vehicle speed limits are 50-55 miles per hour), I would agree. So, Johnson, during public hearings in December 2008 and April 2009 goes off on The Canyons project proposed connection to Morning Drive and extension of Morning Drive from Johnson became so obsessed with his attempts to defeat The Canyons connection to and extension of Morning Drive to Alfred Harrell Highway, he did a foolish thing: he argued with the City Traffic Engineer, the EIR Traffic Engineer and ignored the project EIR’s traffic impact findings and mitigation measures by insisting there MUST be more increased traffic from The Canyons project through Hart Park than what the experts are telling him. Only one problem, the EXPERTS did not agree with him, not even the County Traffic Engineer or the County Parks & Recreation Director who work for the county, where Mike Maggard roosts as a County Supervisor. Johnson is an aspiring political wannabe, serving as a lackey for a politically sociopathic megalomaniac. Johnson should practice politics when he becomes a REAL elected official, not an appointee to a judicial body. Johnson’s absence will bring an end to the political shenanigans that have been plaguing the City Planning Commission since Johnson was appointed by his BOSS Mike Maggard.
