What kind of bird is this?
I was walking this morning when I came upon a pair of birds making a huge racket in a tree. I stopped and peered up in the tree and saw a large, weird looking bird. It was brown with e fuzzy head. Like it was wearing one of those furry Russian hats.

As I circled the tree to get a better look at the birds, I noticed this chick on the ground. I snapped a pic with my phone. Can anyone tell what this is?

Note: the bird had really long legs, and they are sticking out in front of it.

I've never actually seen one, but my dad described it as the Oooh bird. The egg it lays is twice the mother's size...

I wish the picture was clearer.  An owl, perhaps?

Looks like a rabbit to me.

If it was big, black, and made a "cawww cawww cawww" sound, I've heard them called "shoot-me birds."

Ever hear about the guy who trained a Suicide Parakeet?  Taught it to say "Here, kitty, here, kitty, kitty..."

Email a biology teacher at CSUB or BC, they might know.

Looks like I can only see a left wing.

Well, then more likely a blue jay than a red robin...

OK I put up a revised pic. This thing had a long neck and legs, like a heron. Definitely too long for a bird like a owl or blue jay. Also both the small bird and its parents were brown and tan.

May be a roadrunner.  Did the adults look like this?

Meep Meep. Get out your Acme, Inc. Bird detector tool. I believe it is a roadrunner indeed.

since we're sharing bird jokes. . .

It looks like a cross between an owl and a rabbit.  Is it a raowl?
