Bows are the traditional greeting in East Asia, particularly in Korea and Japan.

bow:

to bend or incline (the knee, body, or head) in worship, submission, etc.

Yeah, sounds about right.  The world apology tour continues...

Or you can use this definition:

bow (v.):  bend the head or upper body as a sign of respect, greeting, etc.

Back in 1994, the NY Times was ready to jump Clinton for *almost* bowing to the Emperor.   There was this war fought in 1776 so that Americans would no longer bow to royalty.  But last fall you all voted for hope and change, so start practicing your bows and curtsies.

Everyone make sure you write a letter and tell Obama to punch 'em in the face next time.  We need to show the world how tough we are.

I wonder if he'll kiss the Saudis.

Dick Cheney greated him like a man.

So did Putin.

Hell, even the prime minister of Slovenia didn't bow.

But then, None of these guys were probably saying "Gomen nasai for WWII".

Why is it so difficult to be polite and show respect---and not be criticized for it...

First impressions is forever...
