Our Federal government has a secret or two..or 29...

This administration, in light of all the spying, prying and nosing into our personal business...has now told us that it’s none of OUR business who comes and goes in the White House. After all, its become part and parcel of this administration, to keep things to themselves..things that have nothing to do with "states secrets"..just things they don't want us to know anymore. The list is up to 29 items or statistics or just plain ol' information we used to be able to access but the Bush administration no longer allows us, the universal us..to access.

If you would like to see this “Memorandum of Understanding” that changes who owns the Visitors Log you can view it here. TPMuckraker in fact, has a great article that shows us information that used to be available to citizens but under Bush, no longer is. I really love the title of the TPM article: Bush Admin: What You Don't Know Can't Hurt Us.

Another little secret, according to the TPM article: Department of Defense has suddenly classified the numbers of attacks in Iraq for September through November of this year -- after providing the figures for every month since the war began. Why classify the information now? If there's a good explanation, we don't know it, and the Pentagon isn't returning our calls.”-Why, one might ask..is classifying this info now as “secret” important and necessary? Must have some bad juju in there was my thought.

But then, we have these gems, also courtesy of the TPMuckraker:

In March, the administration announced it would no longer produce the Census Bureau’s Survey of Income and Program Participation, which identifies which programs best assist low-income families, while also tracking health insurance coverage and child support.

In 2005, after a government report showed an increase in terrorism around the world, the administration announced it would stop publishing its annual report on international terrorism.

After the Bureau of Labor Statistics uncovered discouraging data about factory closings in the U.S., the administration announced it would stop publishing information about factory closings.

When an annual report called “Budget Information for States” showed the federal government shortchanging states in the midst of fiscal crises, Bush’s Office of Management and Budget announced it was discontinuing the report, which some said was the only source for comprehensive data on state funding from the federal government.

When Bush’s Department of Education found that charter schools were underperforming, the administration said it would sharply cut back on the information it collects about charter schools.

In March 2006, the Department of Health and Human Services took down a  Web site devoted to substance abuse and treatment information for gays and lesbians, after members of the conservative Family Research Council complained.

The Department of Labor also removed from its Web site roughly two dozen fact sheets on women's workplace issues such as women in management, earning differences between men and women, child care concerns, and minority women in the workplace.

The list is long..twenty-nine items long and I don’t have the space to post it all here..but if you wish to take a swig of Mylanta or eat a few Rolaids and peruse it all..be my guest. The bottom line, for me, is this:

Our government, under President Bush, treats us like mushrooms my dear reader. They keep us in the dark and feed us bs, or in some cases..refuses to feed us any information at all when it serves their purpose.

It's truly scary what is happening. What I can't understand is why America isn't doing anything about this. Have we all become brain dead or forgotten what we learned in the 60's?

The fear factor keeps many american's in line mskatsnow. They think the government knows best, and they would never do anything to hurt us..RIGHT!

American's also believe the slogans and rhetoric pouring out of this administration. Not me, and evidently not MOST of the voters since they voted for change.

The nw congress will hopefully begin to require declassification for funding.  I know it's an overstep for that branch, but I think it is becoming neccessary in the face of a President who will do whatever he can't be stopped from doing.

Tom, if we are waiting for the 110th Congress to do right by us..we might be waiting for quite awhile. They have their first 100 hours agenda..none of which includes holding Bush's feet to the fire regarding due process or our rights. He just keeps pushing the envelope doesn't he?

I think the issue is that our system wasn't designed to handle the type of stuff that this administration is trying to do.  Again, I think we need serious investigations.  100 hours should only take us to the end of the month since Congress is staying open this year.  After the SOTU, I expect the fur to start to fly.

What's the big deal?.......the same policy was used by the Clinton administration, and you didn't complain then (wonder why?).........Clinton had convicted drug dealers, foreign criminals and all sorts of riff-raff visit the White House when he was president, but it was ignored by you left wing loonies because they contibuted their ill-gotten gains to the Democrat Party..........now you have your panties in a wad.........funny how your demands for adherence to rules applies only to your opponents......however when the same rules are applied to your behavior, you cry foul and call it a "witchhunt"..........strange, very strange indeed......

The Clinton administration was prosecuted using the W.H. visitors log. As for ANY President having the ability to remove due process, classify documents that were created BEFORE his administration took office or to spy on American's without a warrant...I do not think any Repub or Dem should have that power.

Clinton did not put us into a war that benefits only War Profiteers. As hard as the Republican's tried, they could not find anything other than Monica with which to hang Clinton. Rightwing "loonies" tried everything to get to Clinton and they failed..did they not? Whitewater anyone? Millions spent on that investigation and who went to jail? It wasn't Hillary or Bill.

Only a facist would support the  moves  into secrecy, the warrantless spying and a host of other things this president and his administration have pulled.  Clinton wasn't hated when he left office. Bush...well, only the neocons will still be loving him when he leaves office, at least those that haven't abandoned ship yet.

Bush has pardoned his share of derelicts..a bomber, a bootlegger, a counterfitter, and speaking of drug dealers..YOUR boy Bush has pardoned a few too:

  • Gene Armand Bridger, Elkhart, Ind., conspiracy to commit mail fraud, mail fraud, sentenced May 29, 1963, to five years probation.

  • Cathryn Iline Clasen-Gage, Rockwall, Texas, misprision of a felony, sentenced Aug. 21, 1992, to 18 months in prison and a year of supervised release.

  • Rusty Lawrence Elliott, Mount Pleasant, Tenn., making counterfeit money, sentenced April 26, 1991, to a year and a day in prison, two years supervised release and a $500 fine.

  • Adam Wade Graham, Salt Lake City, Utah, conspiracy to deliver 10 or more grams of LSD, sentenced Nov. 23, 1992 to 30 months in prison and five years of supervised release, including 250 hours of community service.

Yeah, and what are the Democrats doing about all this?.........rolling up their sleeves and getting to work?.........nahhhh!........as Drudge Reports, the Dems are simply planning their next day off.....(football's important people, more important than the country itself).......can you believe the Dems are taking MLK Day off next Monday?.......I mean, didn't Dems say that holidays dedicated to Christians are "offensive" and "exclusionary" to other groups?.......and now they're taking a day off to worship a Baptist minister and founder of the Southern CHRISTIAN Leadership Council?........tsk tsk.....!!!

DEM VOW ALREADY BROKEN: HOUSE SETS 4-DAY WORK WEEK
    Sun Jan 07 2007 15:03:38 ET

Democrats ran to expand the work week in the House to 5 days.

But guess how long that lasted?

    Not even one week!

"Culture Shock on Capitol Hill: House to Work 5 Days a Week" front-paged the WASHINGTON POST in December.

Majority leader Steny Hoyer said members of the House will be expected in the Capitol for votes each week by 6:30 p.m. Monday and will finish their business about 2 p.m. Friday.

Explained the POST: "Forget the minimum wage. Or outsourcing jobs overseas. The labor issue most on the minds of members of Congress yesterday was their own: They will have to work five days a week starting in January."

But on the morning after the night before, on the first full week of the new congress, Hoyer has pulled back from his vow!

    A
Hoyer press release obtained by the DRUDGE REPORT boldly declares: "Monday, January 8, 2007: The House is not in session."

Hill sources claim The House is taking Monday 'off' this week, because of the championship football game between Ohio State and the University of Florida.

And, of course, the following Monday is the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

100 hours...starting...coming soon to Sports Bar near you !
