how this for a quicky?

This drawing was created based on a photo sent to me by a businessman/photographer that travels the world. The gentleman show here was one of many people the photographer meet while traveling through North Africa.

The turban was a real challenge and as you can see I started to get bored with it. Maybe because the drawing took a week to get done and I really want to get more pieces done for this book project. The next drawing in this series is of an old man in that region of north Africa... a smaller turban this time. ha....

Im trying to pick people to draw that offer character and expressions and would love to hear back from others with suggestions or comments. Hey maybe even draw a few people around town?

I like this drawing better (if that's possible) than your drawings of celebrities.  How DO you do it?

Audry,

Thanks... and I agree with you. The celebrity drawings are more to keep in practice and allows people to see a face they recognize. I prefere portraits that show, expressions and modes. The one I started last night is of a man from the same region but about 75 years old.. its going to be really cool!!!!!

My did warn my sons that i will be adding them to this project since I am looking for characters. LOL

As for how do I do it? I like to tell people its all in the pencils. I just hold it and the tool does all the work. LOL.... which is pretty close to beign the truth. The right tool in any job is a must to get the best results.

Thanks, again.

You're channeling Da Vinci

I'm always in awe of talent.

Nah.. DiVinci was more of an inventory...... I'm more like Michelangelo. I like to use one of his lines he told the Pope when he was painting the Chapel....... "I'm not a painter!!"

As much as I know I do well enough in color and painting, I perfer black and white pencil drawings. Thats my way to escape from the world around me.

And yes, I'm in awe as well when I see others do such awesome work. Be it singing, painting or whatever..... when they can take the gifts they are blessed with and share it with others.. that blows me away!

I'm with you Audrey, I'm constantly amazed at people with talent.  I worked with a guy who could draw a cartton figure in a jiffy from squiggles.  I have the same awe for people able to make music out of "things" like pianos and guitares..or horns.

I, on the other hand, can't even draw a recognizable stick figure and can barely play the radio.

I was going to say Michelangelo but changed it at the last minute to Da Vinci.  Darn.

Just out of curiosity, how many drawings have you done?

How many drawings have I done? I assume you mean for this book project and not in a life time? ?LOL

I have completed about 8 drawings for this book, since the first of this year. I had to stop to get a few other projects done in between. As I create more drawings, I'll be able to pick which one would be best for this project. As for the layout of the book, since it will show the stages it takes to complete a drawing I have about 65-70 pages so far. My goal is at least 100 pages and with as many new drawings as possible.

I have about eight drawings on my list to complete so I will need more.

Hey David, remember me? I sent you some pics of my son Jordan last year. Have you ever tried going to the gallery in Tehachapi, like I suggested? They have since expanded it and they have had articles in the paper inviting new artists.

Hey.. good to hear from you again. I came across the photos of your son last week and I really want to keep trying even though the detail in his face isn't very clear. Hmmmm..... I have this bad habit if I dont get it right the first time, I keep trying.... so dont give up on me just yet!!!

No. I never did try the gallery in Tehachapi. I should look into them but I am afraid my work isnt what the galleries out here are interested in. So so thats what I get so far by most of them. However ... there is a new gallery coming into town, which I received an email this morning askign if I might be interested in showign my work with them.

If you still have my home email, write me and we'll talk more on the drawings.

I do have other photos of Jordan, and a good scanner, now, as well. As for Tehachapi, I think it is worth a shot for you. What I have seen of your work is wonderful; I think they would be interested. I could ask them for you; I know a couple people there.

Cool.... please feel free to talk to them and if you like direct them my way. Or send me their email address and I am introduce myself.

As for drawing Jordan.. now that you have a better scanner lets go for it. I plan on drawing my sons when they were smaller, and would love to draw the photo of Jordan in his boy scout uniform.. and with your approval perhaps place the drawing in my book?

I dont know how much the publisher will have control over the drawings I place in the book should they accept the manuscript they asked for, but that would be a cool addition to this project!!!!
