Slim the Drifter sings "Streets of Bakersfield"

Hunt around. You'll find it.

I took Slim to Bakersfield Sound Studios in the 90s, gave him my guitar to play , plenty of water to drink and paid for the session.

For someone who walked and slept the streets , Slim pulls all the pain and meaning from the lyrics. Changing the chords to minor was a stroke of true genius.

elginphelps~ "slim" was a very good friend of mine for quite some time~ the good years and towards the end. Thanks for posting this. He did a song called "Book of Matches" which I think could have been one of his best.

I knew Slim for about 15 years.  He was a complex and troubled man but was always ready to give you a smile (or a song) at the drop of a hat.   He was/is a Bakersfield legend and deservedly so.
