Don't you just want to slap these art vandals?
Once in a while, things happen in Bakersfield that are really cool.

The sidewalk art at the Marketplace is one of them. My wife and I enjoyed the work on Saturday night.

That was before someone on Monday marred the work with tire marks.

The vandals probably thought it was fun to ruin the hard work of others.

I think the vandals are numbskulls. I think the vandals highlighted their own inadequacies.
I think the vandals should be slapped upside the head.

Like the little children they are.

Many times when someone else has a talent that one is lacking, that one who is lacking tries to "make-up" for their own inadequacies by ruining someone else's day by criticizing the great work or as in this case, even ruining it. I hope someone turns him/her or them in.

What fun that would be to read of how the cowards got caught, huh?

It's just really too bad for the people who worked so hard on their squares. I know many of them had to dry out the spots due to the rain before they even began. What a shame..

BTW, hope you're feeling better this week. :0)

It is sad that the art was ruined, undoubtedly by children with cars.I hope they are apprehended and appropriately punished~ maybe next year they could make the area ready and do some community service during the weekend event.

It is sad.

I love Art

And I don't mean my old neighbor on Lake Street who used to paint cars

I am all for public humilation...how about when they are found..they are taken to the court house and tied up and let people throw rotten food on them, them make them clean up the mess

Now this is a product of those-"time-outs"..back in the day,dad would grab us by one hand while he applied his belt on our butts with the other..walking us around in a circle until we dug a little ditch...believe me,message recieved and we didn't do that again..I feel for the artists that are blessed with the talent..only for some numb-skull with rotting grey matter to destroy it..

Of course-thats just my opinion

Could it have been an accident? Isn't the art on the black top?

I remember the good ole, nose in the corner, sit on the bed (no tv, radio allowed) and when all else failed swat to the rear. My fathers answer was always a spanking, my mother knew that a mix of choice of punishments worked better and actually did work better.

They do it on blacktop in parking spaces as I recall

sfinboston, you are into public humiliation?

~sfinboston~ At that age--we wern't given a choice..and mom was the one that told dad of our mis-deeds---snitch...but we learned..I wish they would catch this/these individuals.

of my self no...but as a form of punishment over sending them to jail...yes.

Jerks, morons, a**holes, take your pick. Regardless whether the art was on the asphalt or sidewalk, I believe it was the intentional act of some idiot(s) lacking the brains or creativity to find a better pasttime than ruining the creative work of their betters.

Just another video arcade graduate doing what comes naturally in his little game world. How many points does one get for wiping out art and destroying a library these days? Are there bonus points for street racing and wiping out a Mercedes Benz and its occupants? Must kill all Elites to win in Halo, and pimp for points in Grand Theft Auto.  Obviously the repetitive message and glorification of violence at the expense of literacy and art are working just fine today.

I'm not sure what the big deal is.  It was a stupid thing to do, but the pictures are being washed away anyway.  If it had happened before the weekend, I would be upset.  Maybe I'm just too used to stuff like this.

Bring back public flogging.

Or, maybe putting the vandals in stocks for a few hours and leaving them to public outrage would get it through their pea brains that they're not entitled to ruin everyone else's good time.

The very nature of the art was that it would be washed away..still it's one thing to have done as planned and another entirely for someone to peel out over it.

And this is the future of America...their parents must be VERY proud of raising the next generation of probation/parole violators...their punishment should be that they can pass an art class with more than a "D"..

Although I do consider this vandalism and I'm very intolerant of people who show lack of respect for other's property, I do also realized that rain would have done more damage.

Looks like an accident....Real vandals would have thrown a few buckets of water and ran....Where is the parking lot video? Where was security?  Now I really don't feel very safe letting my Wife walk that parking lot.

Sorry folks, but this is not vandalism. Vandalism must be damaging, destroying, ect., the real or personal property of another person. These drawings are not "property", in the context of the law. It was a juvenile thing to drive over them, but it's not a crime.

If they do find the people who do this, I think a better idea might be to do an artistic portrait of their faces, make a bunch of copies and then tape them to the inside of urinals all over town.
