Dr. (NOT!) Phil
I just read that the state is investigating Phil McGraw for practicing psychology without a license because he went to visit Britney Smears. It seems he not only has never been licensed in California, but that Texas revoked his license there years ago. There were allegations of "inappropriate behavior" with a former patient, after which the good (?) doctor left the state in apparent disgrace. Why is it that California seems to attract people who are not welcome in their own home towns? We seem to be saddled with the rabble that other states do not want darkening their doors. And not only do they come here in droves, but they end up rich and famous to boot! And why is it that it took a visit to the country's number one bimbo to prompt an investigation into the background of someone who has tremendous influence over many people in our state? I have never been a fan of Mr. Phil, but the fact that he sits on his high horse on TV and in books, telling everyone what is wrong with them, just chaps my hide. It seems he has his own dark closets, but there he is, playing doctor without a license to do so, messing with people's lives and earning their trust, and he is making millions doing it. I saw a photo of him and his wife on the cover of a magazine just last night, and the woman is sporting a diamond the size of a small car. I, for one, hope that California cancels the meal ticket for Mr. Phil and follows Texas' lead by running him out of the state. I also fervently hope that if he does leave, he takes Britney Smears with him. 15 comments from 12 users

I still have that image of him in the role of Nesferatu with Brittney.

I am sickened at the thought that Dr Phil might be a fraud. I was never a regular viewer of his television show, but I saw a few clips in which he appeared so common-sense reasonable that I formed an initial feeling of respect for him. And I am not automatically a fan of just any old therapist, many of whom ought to be in therapy themselves. And I must admit that I knew nothing of his background, academic or otherwise, but I liked what I heard. Should it turn out that he is just another among the legions of charlatans spieling the sucker public, I will feel so foolish for buying in. And I thought I was so smart..... But before I write the guy off, please tell me where you "read" or discovered this damning information? posted by

I can't form an opinion on the man...his show doesn't interest me, and you're right ~saber~...one really doesn't have to be smart to apply common-sence... thank goodness for more than one channel on the t.v...... the press are going to have a field-day with this...

Interesting. I'll have to check these facts out myself before I make a judgment, but Dr. Phil really does have a way of sounding like he knows it all. Regarding your comment to me, I don't know what kind of temperment Jenny will have as she grows up. She's a sweetie now, though, and seems to want to please. I'm getting her checked out at the vet this afternoon. I'll have more to say about her tomorrow. I tried to add another comment, but it didn't show up, so I'll edit this one. I read on Wikapedia about Dr. Phil. Everything you mention in your post is true. Wow. Regarding Jenny, I have several other dogs. She gets along with them just fine, but she's still a puppy. She is probably no more than eight weeks old. If Jenny is the breed I think she is, they make good family dogs but require a strong hand. posted by

Back again. I checked Dr. Phil out on Wikapedia and it sounds like everything you mentioned in your post is accurate. Wow. Also, about Jenny, I have several other dogs. She's getting along with them fine right now, but I think Jenny is only about 8 weeks old or so. Whoever gets Jenny will have to assure me they have a fenced yard and a strong commitment. If Jenny is part or full Staffordshire terrier, she can make a fine family dog, but will need to have an owner who has a strong personality and will make sure she knows who is boss.
