Consider yourself warned!

Chuck E. Cheese is a cesspool! I had not been there in 8 or so years but upon receiving a b-day party invitation I found myself with my 2 & 10 year at Chuck E. Cheese. The first thing I noticed was that you no longer have to purchase pizza & tokens to get in the door...admission is free. So I noticed whole families sharing a soda (unlimited re-fills) - parents milling around as kids ran amuck. Also, I have never seen so many pairs of house shoes, flannel pajama bottoms, slut tats, bare stomachs (most of which should've been covered), gold teeth, missing teeth, and such in one place. We made our way to the party table and took some tokens to go play until "party time". With both my children at my side, I put a token in a toddler size car and lifted my son onto the seat as my daughter played a neighboring game. A little boy of about 7 started to climb onto the seat next to my son and I kindly told him that he needed to wait his turn. He promptly replied "no". He continued to climb onto the car and pushed my son aside (it was a ride for 1 as the "steering wheel" was in the middle of the seat). I told him that he needed to get down and get a token from his mom and wait his turn. "my momma ain't got not tokens. She said for me to ride now." It was then I noticed a large woman eyeing me. I think she was making a shank out of one of the plastic drink cups. I took my son down and allowed the boy to have the ride to himself. At that moment my daughter came and told me a kid took her tickets. We then went to my friend..told her we had to go...and proceeded to the car where we took mini baths with hand sanitizer.

Jade: welcome to the new and unimproved Bakersfield Calif.  It seems that what you observed is happening all over this state and is also happening in our educational system, which is why the teachers can't teach and our kids who want to learn can't.  Go back east and the attitude is totally different.  Calif has become a dumping ground for every piece of scum that floats.

You did the right thing in leaving the situation - I on the other hand would have jerked the bratty kid out of the car and marched him over to his mother and dared her to do anything in a public place. But then that's me!!!

Today's parents seem to feel THEIR children have carte blanche to do as they please. Sad commentary.  You have the opportunity to teach your kids better and hopefully they will teach their kids better.  Good Luck

You should also post this to the restaurant's listing in the Inside Guide.  These blogs disappear rather quickly, but the Inside Guide is forever!

Sounds like it's gotten worse since I last took my youngster to that jr. casino. A kiddie place with a big gray sewer rat for a mascot should be some kind of red flag.

Gee, I am going to have to go.  Sounds like more fun than Wal-Mart.  LOL

Actually, this behavior does not surprise me.  I was in the Salvation Army last week and this family came in and immediately the kids were everywhere.  Touching, pushing and play with everything.  The little girl went to the furniture and was jumping on the white couch.  An employee told her to get off as it was getting dirty, if not her parents were going to have to buy it.  The parents just looked at her.  Geeezzzz

posted by Shwaine on Mar 10, 2009 at 10:44 AM

I think I would have had the same response as Witters. Well, minus the daring perhaps, but I'd be of the mind to take the child off the ride and send him back to his mother too. No doubt the mother would throw a hissy fit about her precious child being touched though, even if it was to break up a looming fight caused by her child.

I believe it! Chuck E. Cheese has turned very dirty and ghetto, although I use to enjoy the pizza. I stopped going years ago after having my daughters b-day there and the place smelled.  It smelled of feet then. My daughter has been back once or twice since then and now understands why I stopped going there.  She smells it too!

WL : done...thnx for the idea

Witters & Shwaine -  Don't you know what a shank is? :o)

We share the same feeling about the place.  Thanks for the warning.

wow...the parents were walking around??  usually they are in the dining room getting drunk and using foul language.

Johns inedible is getting to be the same way....people just crowd in front of you, and when you say something to them, they get an attitude

unfortunately, it seems that most of Bakersfield is this way....with the exception of some pockets....from about gosford road east is now totally ghetto.

sad.  ive been here all my life, and i am watching the ghetto-facation of my hometown

posted by randomfactor on Mar 10, 2009 at 11:25 AM

Yeah, they let them coloreds go almost *EVERYWHERE* now.

posted by witterpitters on Mar 10, 2009 at 11:27 AM

Yes Jade I do know what a "shank" is - most times my anger at bad behavior overrides my fear factor!!!! Gets me in trouble sometimes but at least others know where they stand with me and usually do not "mess" with me a second time.

I think I would have taken my kids over to a friends house then gone back to let the mom of the brat know what an idiot she is a a parent! Then if something happened my kids would not be in the situation.  Again..................that's just me!! A bull in a china shop!!! I just loveeeeeeeeeee  brick walls!!!

RF:  THAT was uncalled for.

What was "the colored" comment all about?

posted by randomfactor on Mar 10, 2009 at 11:35 AM

"Ghetto-facation?"

The latent racism in this town is palpable, ladies.

posted by witterpitters on Mar 10, 2009 at 11:40 AM

really??? I've seen other races that live in "ghettos" - heard of white trash?  Got a couple of them on this block where the majority of us keep up our homes and yards.

posted by NancyII on Mar 10, 2009 at 11:41 AM

C'mon Rf, you know that people refer to anything scroungy as ghetto.  There's not much literal left in most meanings and to take it that way, YOU are the racist.  What was described fits most people's perception of Oildale rather than a Black community.

If you're going to be totally literal about words then you must admit that the blogs can be quite a gay place to be at times.  Gay meaning happy, homosexual, or terrible.  Depending on your generation and your mindset.

Some of you are always looking for boogers...hollering before you're bit.

posted by jadedcynic on Mar 10, 2009 at 11:45 AM

Ummmm....

RF - I'm Black - and I agree with Learn - to me ghetto is a reference to a state of mind void of manners, etiquette, and such - not a race definition.

posted by randomfactor on Mar 10, 2009 at 11:50 AM

I'm not black, but even I see the "gold teeth" reference as unnecessary unless the original poster intended to convey the impression that the problem stemmed from the "wrong type" of people getting in.  Learnem obviously got the message with his "ghetto" comment.

Yes, "gay" used to mean something else.  "Ghetto" used to refer to walled enclaves of Jewish people living under their own self-imposed rules.

How much of the opposition seen here to Obama is due to the fact that he's a Black man in the White House?

I haven't been in Chuck-e-Cheese for almost six months, and it was quite a raucous place then.  Not my first, second or seventeenth choice for a dining establishment.   But I'm gonna call 'em as I see 'em.

"shes got a ghetto booty" does that mean only black women can have large butts?? Cause if thats true my wife has some splainin to do LUCY

Chuck E. Cheese~ no cheese ,just upchuck.

Having found out, right here on these blogs from the Rosedale "elite", that I live in the "inner city" and not the "prestigious" historical Oleander area I thought I did live in....guess I am ghetto enough to comment.

Generalizations about "slut" tattoos, gold teeth, missing teeth, apparel and place of residence are not exactly "scientific". I have know some perfectly acceptable society people who use "shanks" of another sort all together~ to look at them, one would never know.

posted by Mountianman on Mar 10, 2009 at 12:02 PM

RF, not liking Obama has nothing to do with people saying Ghetto here, you interjected racism to try and make people here look racist and failed, and for the record, im white, but there are people in my family with Gold teeth, does that make them Ghetto? you ever been to Taft?, or Arvin?, or up north some? lots of Ghettos up that way,

also, I do not care if the man is Green - I do not like his politics. period. he's a liar and only speaks well if he reading off the telepromter

RF - People of all colors have gold teeth - evident by most reality shows on VH1 & MTV

Me thinkest thou dost protest too much (by the way - that's not ebonics but a crude semi-quote of a very famous writer...)

posted by siouxcityranch on Mar 10, 2009 at 12:03 PM

uh chuckee cheese aint in the historical oleander area..check your map..theres a huge freeway between and its till a couple miles south before you hit the rats lair

And it bothers you why?   You took enough note of it to mention it in your review.

Same question re:  the pajama pants?

Me thinkest I'm not the one who doth protest too much.

hay I love my pajama pants..

Now that takes the cake.  A blog about how terrible Chuckie Cheese's is and the low lifes that have taken over there becomes a political statement about obama.

Rf, you've gone round the bend this time.  That's just too silly for words.  :-)

I was there saturday night and was surprised how decent it was. Sure, lots of people, lots of screaming kids. But also lots of fun and games. My son had a terrific time for his birthday.

If you want a really bad time, try Boomers/Camelot Park.

For a fun, non-crazy, time, have a party at CALM.

posted by TurkeySandwich on Mar 10, 2009 at 12:20 PM

My family was there a few months ago, OMG it's nasty, my 3 y/o son was trying to play the skeeball, and there was a little boy climbing up, down and side to side on the lanes (this kid was wandering parent-less the entire night), I told him to get down and he stared at me like I was speaking another language, well I just told my son to go ahead and throw.  John's Incredible pizza is another ghetto gathering hole, my husband put my son on the merry-go-round and as soon as it started a herd of pre-tweens came and jumped on it, and almost knocked my son off, we immediately left.

Is the little boy's speech described in the blog  urban ghetto or NOR white trash? :

I told him that he needed to get down and get a token from his mom and wait his turn. "my momma ain't got not tokens. She said for me to ride now." It was then I noticed a large woman eyeing me...

Random has a point ... and,  it is a silly blog.

RF: gold teeth/missing teeth were mentioned in the "review" because it is what she saw upon entering the establishment! If she had mentioned that there were people with perfectly straight white teeth would that be an issue? or that people were wearing diamonds and designer clothes?

IMO, people just don't care anymore what they look like when appearing in public and I think that is what Jade was alluding to for the most part. It used to be people dressed for the occasion and even a pizza place would have people dressed in sandals, tennis shoes, capris, slacks, nice top AND children waiting their turn or getting smacked for pushing a toddler!!! Also, most who have dental work do not have gold teeth in the front of their mouths - but only in the back if needed. To have one in the front, now days, is to say look at me - I can afford an expensive gold tooth in the front but I can't feed my kids......oh well.

Now, missing teeth is a separate issue all together. My hubby is missing teeth in the front and he has a partial - but he can't use the partial as his gag reflex makes it impossible for him to keep the partial in his mouth. We can't afford implants or that is what he would do. So there you have the tooth comment!!!

Have a good day y'all...I'm going to eat luch with my son -  we're having chicken (not a racist comment..I made smothered chicken for dinner last night)- go to the park, then start car pool pick ups.

Oh I forgot, the "slut tattoo" those are normally called tramp stamps and they coincide with the thong which normally both appear when you innocently glance over and the culprit is bent over, and you see a good amount of oildale cleavage.  Only then when she stands back in the upright position do you notice her stripper striped hair and muffin top.

Wasn't it just awhile back that making fun of anyones apperance was wrong...???? Ya know things they can't control~ like missing teeth,or gold ones.. anyway~Calm is a much better place for kids of all ages!

We can all learn from the experiences of others.  What I have learned from the experience that jadedcynic had is that the next time I go to CEC I will place any of my ride seeking toddlers into the car prior to inserting the token.  CEC used to give out tokens to the children who brought in their report cards.  They may still do that.

I also think that in Bakersfield there is too casual of an attitude when it comes to attire while in  public.  Please people do you know how to use a mirror?  When I go out and about the only skin of yours I care to see is below the knee or elbow and from the neck up.  There are way too many bare bellies accompanied by waistband overhanging flesh in this town.  I don't care which race a person belongs to if they have too many unsightly bulges exposed it is just gross.  I would never dream of imposing a view of my fat old dimpled body parts on any of you.

I have not been to chuckie in years. why it stinks and have stunk for years, and i guess i live in the gettho too, I will take up Sage's word "The Inner City" . I'm sorry you had a bad experience at Chuck E Cheese, Jaded.  We went there in September for my son's birthday, and the place was practically empty.  It was really nice.

Although, I do know what you mean by disgusting slobs (I'm not even getting involved in the race relations here.)  There were these two women parked across from the salad bar and one of them kept getting up, walking over to the salad bar, and grabbing stuff out of the bowl WITH HER HANDS and walking back to her table to eat it, again, with her hands.  I thought my Mom was going to throw up!  We only saw this AFTER we got our salads, and that woman was there when we got there, so there's no telling how many salad bar items she pawed before we got our salads.  Talk about gross.

We all had a good time outside of that, though.  Like I said, there weren't too many people there.  It was a Wednesday afternoon, though, so that may have been why.  Or maybe all the potential customers saw that disgusting chick and left, I don't know.  LOL!

I haven't been there since 1981 ... even nine going on ten I knew enough to not go back. That has always been a vile place.

Here is yet another reason to be disappointed with Chuck E. Cheese.   Local restaurant forced to close doors after 21 years

Oh. Did you stay long enough to watch the "show"? We went once for my daughter and her surrogate brother's birthday. The pizza wasnt that good and never had enough of their confetti to get the good toys. So we bought a few and boogied, never to return. They liked flying kites and the beach and the movie theatre far much better (-;. Sooz. PS You made me laugh. Thanks for that

They like Chuck E Cheese because they don't have to dress up like they do when they go to McDonalds. I thought everyone here knew RF thinks any comment is racist.  I wonder what that says about him.
