jbaldwin - > Musements -> Ah! Gray hair!
Ah! Gray hair!
Last Saturday, I was helping to host my significant other's 30th birthday party when suddenly the revelers turned on ME! This wasn't MY roast ...

But there they were, picking through my hair, searching for a gray hair.

Now I'm nearly 31. I have light brown-dirty blonde hair and I have ALWAYS prided myself on the fact that I have no gray hairs. I'm young at heart, and in looks.

So when someone called out, "Found one!" I nearly died. Good thing I was wearing sunglasses because my eyes teared up. She plucked out the white hair and handed it to me. I screamed.

Then there was another, and another and another. Four gray hairs all together, they found. I was in shock.

I have always said to myself that once I find a gray hair, I am cutting my hair off and dying it. I have been toying with the idea of cutting my hair lately anyway because it is just too long and annoying. I have 14" to lose, more than the 10" requirement to donate to Locks of Love. So I'm going to do it. In a few days, I will have a blonde bob. And I will be cute, and look younger than the 31 years I am about to turn.

Consider yourself lucky!  I have had white hair mixed in with my dark brown hair since 8th grade.  I have had to dye it since then and I am now 27.  I wish that I could have had my natural hair color for that long!  All the brunettes on my Mother's side of the family have this early gray curse.  I have made the best of it though.  I change from brunette to blond to red head all the time.  It can be kind of fun!  If you only have a few white hairs, I think that dying it is not necessary unless you are looking for a reason to change your appearance.

As you can tell from my two photos (my profile photo and the one with the blog post), my hair is either brown or blonde, depending on the lighting. The last time I had color in my hair, I was about 23 and broke. I had been getting blond highlights, but couldn't afford the monthly salon visits. So I bought some dye at a drug store and dyed it brown. Then I let my natural color grow out.

I used to love changing my hair color in college, though. I did red, strawberry blonde, blond, auburn, chestnut brown. I'm ready for a change now. Plus, I'm going to Vegas for my birthday next week and I want a new, cute 'do!

It's always nice to get a new hair style.  I think that my husband enjoys it too!  I even let him pick out the last color...brave, I know!  I hope you are happy when you get your new look and feel refreshed, energized and ready for Vegas.  Happy Birthday!

Better gray than bald.

I think bald can be sexy (on men that is)!  Isn't it sad that women like myself feel like we need to dye our gray hair, in fear that we will look older or maybe as old as we are if we don't?  Most women find men more handsome with a little frost.  So unfair!!!

I had my first gray hair at 22.  I preserved it in a piece of tape and hung it on my bulletin board in my single studio apt. in Chicago.  It was a reminder that you only get one life.  My wild black hair (bninjust one) on my arm, the one that gets really long, has turned gray.  I've even found a gray hair in my eyebrows.   Ok, now I don't want to scar/scare you, but I recently found a gray hair, eh-hem, down there.  It sucks to get old, but it happens to the best of us.

Oh my .... I guess it ALL goes gray at some point, huh? Ha ha

My SO (significant other) thinks long, silver hair on women can be sexy - as long as it's full and not stringy. Maybe later in life when I'm all gray, I'll try the all-natural approach. But for now, I'm going for the color :)
