Fanciest restaurant in Bakersfield?
Twice in the past week I have been in a conversation where the topic of the lack of fancy restaurants in Bakersfield has come up. Not that I am rich and go out to fancy restaurants a lot. But sometimes I just want to get dressed up and go somewhere really expensive and splurge for a night.

But where can you do that in Bakersfield? Where can you go and just drop a huge wad of money on a fancy dinner? About the fanciest I can think of is Cafe Med, but even that place isn't evening-gown required.

Seriously, where do people go for a fancy feast in this town?

The Bistro is more expensive than Cafe Med but neither of them are worth wasting your money on. If you want good food you have to travel to Los Angeles or San Francisco.

*Grand Cafe in San Francisco is one of the finest places to dine in California.

The last time I did this, I chose McGee's at the Ice House.

I haven't been to The Bistro yet, but I've been meaning to try it. And yes, McGee's is quite nice. I did spent a lot on chocolate creme brulee and a delicious glass of wine there one night.

So which restaurants have linen and candles on the tables?

Ooh, here's another question: Has anyone been to Valentine? I think they have a high-dollar menu, right? Is it fancy inside?

Historically,  "white tablecloth"  dining establishments haven't done well in Bakersfield.  As my grandson is fond of saying, people here buy their food by the pound.   They want more solids for their money.   Fine dining rarely includes a big baked potato and country gravy over a chicken fried steak with green beans on the side.  It's more like some small new potatoes or red potatoes and a light wine sauce over Chateaubriand and 3 asparagus spears with Hollandaise sauce.   Things are definitely changing as we have several WTC restaurants in town now.  Hopefully they will make it as it seems to please the  folks with a more delicate palate who complain that Bakersfield is a backwoods town..

I kind favor Dirty Bob's on 7th Standard and 99.

I love the Stratosphere in Las Vegas.  A wonderful experience.  No, it's not in Bakersfield, but worth the trip.  Who wants to take me?  LOL

You'll never find that kind of restaurant in Bakersfield.... go to Vegas...
Michaels, Stratosphere, Morton's, and many more.
Hey, look at it this way, it's an event to plan for - expect to pay a minimum of $150 per head at the above!

Ooh, plus airfare, that's a REAL extravagance!

Give it up there are no "real" restaurants in Bakersfield. or Kern County for that matter. We do have a plethora of Gag and Vomits to chose from should you dare.
