What? Daylight Saving starts Sunday???
This is your brain (000) This is your brain on maternity leave (.) The past four months have been a whirlwind and now all of a sudden BAM! time is slapping me in the face saying "I'm flying by!" I JUST realized that daylight saving time starts this Sunday. Is it seriously that time of year again? This time last year I was brand-spanking-newly knocked up. Spring was in the air, life was growing all around and inside of me, I was full of fear and hope, and I was puking a lot. Thank God that's over! But I have just spent four glorious winter months hunkered down in my cozy home, all bundled up with my newborn baby, playing silly games, singing songs, rocking him to sleep, and watching the fog and rain out the windows while we stayed all safe and warm inside our cocoon. Now suddenly I had to stretch my wings and return to work this week. Sunday, the time shift will further pull me out of the den of my precious winter. I'm going to miss the rainy days playing with all our "friends" and dancing to Old MacDonald. I actually do love daylight saving time. I love the late, warm evenings for walks, barbecuing, and spending time outdoors. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of playing in the street with all the neighborhood kids and even some parents until it was bedtime. So I will grieve the winter past but welcome summer with hopes of once again playing outside until bedtime, this time as the parent enjoying the laughter of my little guy.

I'm waiting to see how many people show up an hour late on Monday, because it does seem to have snuck up on people this year. posted by

Sucks, don't it? I hate DST. Not only do I consider it unnecessary, but I, too, view it as the loss of winter. I never look forward to summer, only the end of it. Yuck. And it always seems to last so much longer (read interminably) than wintertime. Babies are fun in summer, though, I must admit. Swimming, firefly chasing (wait, I forgot, I'm not back east anymore...), fireworks. Welcome back, jen. Enjoy that baby! And remember, you lose ten IQ points for every child you have. posted by

Thanks ghostriter! I got to see my very first fireflies last summer when visiting my brother in Kansas City. I was absolutely fascinated by them. If I was a child, I'd have lost myself to fanciful fairytales in that back yard all night. posted by

It IS earlier this year. Usually the last weekend in March. I don't mind at all but wish they'd pick a time and leave it the heck alone. I hate the switching back and forth and find it totally pointless. posted by

I bet there will be a lot of people late to church sunday morning. The longest I ever went was 3pm before realizing it was actually 4pm. posted by

ghost~ regarding those 10 IQ points~ true enough until that child hits 13,when they can't not believe you are allowed outside the house unsupervised! I find babies enjoyable all seasons~ especially when you have AC. DTS I find more and more annoying each year.

Thanks, Nancy. That makes me feel a little better. I was shocked when the bakosphere post about changing the clocks appeared earlier this week. posted by

I really, really don't like the daylight saving time. Ugh...it's so lame. It annoys me and I hate having to get used to it. The only thing I like about it is knowing that I have an extra hour of daylight before sunset to feed my animals. It annoys me in December when I have to feed the animals dinner at 4 p.m. just because the sun is setting. Fireflies? What are those? I'm so jealous. I used to have a friend from Texas (before she moved back to Texas again...) who told me about how she would catch fireflies and put them in the jar. I never actually knew that they existed before then. I'm so jealous!! In all seriousness, why can't they live in Bakersfield, or why don't we have them here? Is it just the heat or what? posted by

We are not alone in being surprised that it is DST already.
"When does daylight-saving time start this year? From here http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzl... Hawaii, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and most of Arizona do not observe DST.
