The Beale Memorial Library is offering the following computer classes in November 2009:

 
Basic Keyboard and Mouse   -- The most basic skills needed to operate a Library Computer, including: identifying hardware, software, drives, disks, and peripherals; terminology such as Desktop, Icons, Monitor; opening a program; how to navigate windows; using a mouse: pointing--clicking—double-click ing—right-clicking—selecting & highlighting—drag & drop. This class is intended for beginners & assumes no prior knowledge of computer use.   Saturday, November 7, 10 am – 12 pm.
This class will be repeated on Thursday, November 19, 3-5 pm.
 
The following classes require a basic knowledge of computer mouse and keyboard skills:
 
Microsoft Word, Session 1:        & nbsp;       &n bsp; Thursday, November 12, 3-5 pm
Learn basic skills for creating a document; practice skills such as:
  • Identifying the parts of a Word Window
  • Toolbars & icons
  • Selecting & modifying text
  • Saving, opening & printing files
  • Cutting & pasting
  • Centering, spacing, fonts, copy & paste, Undo
  • Setting margins & line spacing
  • Formatting text
 
Microsoft Word, Session 2:         & nbsp;       Saturday, November 21, 10 am – 12 pm
Explore additional tools in Microsoft Word, including:
  • Different views, customizing toolbars
  • Screenshots
  • Graphic objects (inserting, adjusting size &/or shape)
  • Autoshapes, text boxes, WordArt
 
Internet -- How to find information on the World Wide Web, including: history of the Internet & its structure; typing an Internet address (URL) into the Address Bar; clicking on & following links; using a search engine for basic searches; evaluating information found on the Internet; warning about how technology can be misused to distort information.   Saturday, November 14, 3-5 pm.
