Sushi Addict
My name is Kimberly and I'm a sushi-holic.
I got hooked on sushi when I moved to LA two years ago for college, even though I had tried it a couple of times years before. Being in LA was great because there were so many choices nearby, not to mention hot spots like the Geisha House. And best of all I didn't know a single person who didn't care for the food. Now cut to me being back in Bakersfield and things are a bit different. I've never been to some of the nice sushi restaurants in town like Toro or Azul, although I'm dying to go! Let's just say that my friends and family here in town don't exactly have the most sophisticated tastes in food, so I don't know a single person who has tried or likes sushi. Bummer. Still, I eat sushi every single week. Alone and in my house, mind you, but once I'm chomping down on that I no longer care. My favorite place to get sushi is the Teryaki Bowl on Panama Lane, in the Albertsons shopping center. I've tried a couple of others (Ichiban, Bento's, Wasabi Express) and they don't exactly compare when it comes to taste and price. My favorite roll is the House Roll, which has shrimp tempura and crab on the inside with salmon and avocado on he outside. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I order this every time I go in and they think it's weird but hey, I know what I like! The crunch roll is great too but I've gotta have that sashimi on the top. Actually if you took that roll, added a bit of cream cheese and lightly fried it around the edges (not with tempura) you'd have my all time favorite roll! It's also a roll that I haven't managed to find anywhere in town. Alas. Boutique Alert I just thought I'd mention that two new boutiques have opened up down town! The Roman Urban Boutique (at the corner of 19th and D street; you can also get 15% off if you mention the radio ad) and Fashionista's by the owners of Shabby Chic, which is somewhere near the Fox theater. The boutique scene is really getting crowded! But I'll be back with a review as soon as I stop by these. 8 comments from 7 users

Sushi is the best, but watch out for the Mercury. The tuna is the worse for mercury and its the most common sushi. Clams are ok.

Thanks for the info! Thankfully I rarely eat tuna, I don't like it that much.

The family went to Tokyo Gardens and my new grandson (by marriage) order the Sushi Dinner. He said it was really good. Couldn't prove it by me. I don't eat fish or seafood in any form and certainly not raw. Here...you can have my share. :-) posted by

Thanks for the link Jason! I definitely have a thing or two to say about a few businesses around here!
Nancy thats really odd that you don't eat fish unless you're a vegetarian because you're missing out on crucial nutrients. And FYI not all sushi contains raw fish! Mattloch, that's cool that your son likes Sushi! I really need to get to Toro soon. posted by

Nancy's the best kind of date to take to a sushi place. She can eat the rice. :) . That's how Spouse #2 and I arrange it...I can take or leave sushi but she's a fanatic. She liked Sushi Kato but we haven't been for a long time.
