Potluck for Obama
Location:
11909 Palm Ave,
Bakersfield, CA 93312
http://my.barackobama.com/p... Want a bar-b-que to attend on the Fourth? This Friday from 4-7pm, Dextor Rich is hosting a fundraisor for Obama in the form of a potluck bar-b-que. A suggested pledge amount of $25 is encouraged. The details from the host: Open House Potluck Dress comfortable. No smoking, call and email to onetwothree123comeflywithme@yahoo.com or 6615884372 and RSVP. No Hand Bags, or personal items. 11909 Palm Ave. Bakersfield CA I'm kind of excited about attending my first Obama event. While I've never missed a vote since I turned 18, I haven't been real active in a campaign for many, many years. I mean, I put yard signs and post information on my various blogs and such, and yes, I'll admit, send money, but I think this time I will put in some sweat equity and give my precious time. I keep reading in various places, mass media and scholarly journals, that race is a significant issue this election. But not really. Everyone keeps kinda dancing around the race issue. Let me offer my fav quote and fill up my dance card: "The discovery of personal whiteness among the world's peoples is a very modern thing - a nineteenth and twentieth century matter, indeed...This assumption, that of all the hues of God, whiteness alone is inherently and obviously better than brownness or tan, leads to curious acts." W.E.B. Du Bois I plan on bringing some patriotic cupcakes that my granddaughters and I baked. Hmmm, and if you're lucky, I'll bring my world famous deviled eggs. What's a Fourth of July bar-b-que & potluck without the deviled eggs? Regards, Joy

You're killin' me, Randomfactor! It's too early in the morning for me to laugh so hard. I will definately wear my flip-flops all during this upcoming election period! Hmmm, since I am considered a very conservative democrat (think living for ten years in Kansas and being a part of Democrats Against Abortion...) I guess I have the flip-flop down to an art form... But ask me tommorrow and I'll probably deny it and tell you something else anyways. posted by

I love the candidates' faux pas. That being said, the last time you (any of you commenting) were speaking in front of hundreds of people in a fully televised/media-trodden venue, were you able to keep from mixing up a term or idea or two? How about while doing it seven days a week and on little sleep, all the while being up and smiling? Allred's going to be considerably blue in November. . Random's response will be: They have to pay Hillary's campaign expenses off. Your predictive skills were off there. My broadband went down when I tried to post that a good point where "enough is enough" would be when we've got as much money to spend as the Republicans will throw at us. We're not there yet by a considerable margin. And the 50-state strategy is going to require a large investment--but could pay off tremendously. Clinton was a viable candidate who picked the wrong campaign staff. posted by

My husband is in the military by choice. None of our military is being shafted by their government. Freedom is never free. Sounds like a simple caveat without consideration of all the ramifications of that thinking, but its true. It's o.k. My husband is willing to die so you can say whatever you want about whatever you want. And I am willing to sacrifice him for the cause. America is and always will be the greatest nation on earth. No matter which way the election goes, America will be the strongest and best nation on earth. <music breaks out in the Joyous household, flags start waving, eyes start tearing> G-d bless the USA. I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free. And I won't forget the men (and women) who died, who gave that right to me. None of our military is being shafted by their government. Sorry, but that's not true. They were sent under false pretenses to fight the wrong war. They were not supported properly (e.g., up-armored vehicles). They were vicims of a lack of post-invasion strategy. They've been killed by faulty electrical wiring in *SHOWERS*, for crying out loud, done by overpaid, war-profiteering contractors. They've been forced to take Iraqi criticism and anger for what out-of-control mercenaries have done. They've had their tours extended two and three times. They've not been given proper rest. Some of them have been sent back with injuries still healing. Some of them have been billed for equipment blown off their bodies by IED's. They've been denied the same sort of benefits (until recently, grudgingly) that those who fought earlier wars enjoyed. And this one's more surface than substance, but I don't believe Bush has attended a single funeral. Instead, he gave up golf. posted by

With all the money Obamalama has raised and you folks STILL want to donate to him? Why? To what purpose? To prove your loyatly? Your support? He'll laugh all the way to the bank with your hard earned dollars and won't even know your name. I'm still of the mind that each candidate should be given a set amount of money and not a dollar more. They should never be allowed to take donations from special interest groups or even the common man. If they can't run a campaign on what they get, that's on them. It would be interesting to see what they could do on their own merits and not by what they can buy. Name your own cause, the war, medical care, poverty, whatever...but give that surpus money to THEM and not to politicians who poof it away on media coverage or any of the other outrageous campaign spending. Lets see who is truly fiscally concious when it comes to cutting back on spending. We already KNOW who is spending the most. posted by

RF, I think it's also important that the money that is coming from individuals actually come from the individual donating. I heard a recent story about a primary candidate (that shall remain nameless) that got quite large donations from people that had minimum wage incomes with no reasonable way to earn such large amounts. It's too easy to use surrogate donations to skirt the rules. posted by

These are taken from the Obama '08 website: http://www.barackobama.com/... Bring Our Troops Home: Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda. Press Iraq's leaders to reconcile: The best way to press Iraq's leaders to take responsibility for their future is to make it clear that we are leaving. As we remove our troops, Obama will engage representatives from all levels of Iraqi society – in and out of government – to seek a new accord on Iraq's Constitution and governance. The United Nations will play a central role in this convention, which should not adjourn until a new national accord is reached addressing tough questions like federalism and oil revenue-sharing. Ensure a Strong U.S.-Israel Partnership: Barack Obama strongly supports the U.S.-Israel relationship, believes that our first and incontrovertible commitment in the Middle East must be to the security of Israel, America's strongest ally in the Middle East. Obama supports this closeness, stating that that the United States would never distance itself from Israel. Stop the Genocide in Darfur: Barack Obama has been a leading voice urging the Bush Administration to take stronger steps to end the genocide in Sudan. He worked with Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) to pass the Darfur Peace and Accountability Act. Obama has traveled to the United Nations to meet with Sudanese officials and visited refugee camps on the Chad-Sudan border to raise international awareness of the ongoing humanitarian disaster there. He also worked with Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) to secure $20 million for the African Union peacekeeping mission. Obama believes the United States needs to lead the world in ending this genocide, including by imposing much tougher sanctions that target Sudan?s oil revenue, implementing and helping to enforce a no-fly zone, and engaging in more intense, effective diplomacy to develop a political roadmap to peace. The international community must, over the Sudanese regime's protests, deploy a large, capable UN-led and UN-funded force with a robust enforcement mandate to stop the killings. End the Conflict in Congo: An estimated 3.9 million people have died from war-related causes since the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo began. Barack Obama wrote and passed legislation to promote stability in the Congo. Obama revamped U.S. policy in the Congo to include a commitment to help rebuild the country, develop lasting political structures, hold accountable destabilizing foreign governments, crack down on corrupt politicians, and professionalize the military. The bill also authorizes $52 million in U.S. assistance for the Congo.
