Union Avenue Plunge

Does anyone remeber the plunge?

I was reading an article in the Californian this week re: old swimming holes. Well, I know the Plunge was not a swimming hole, but it was mine!

Memories, like the corners of my mind........mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Misty water colored memories..............of the way we swam! hahaha

I have two fond "eras" with the Plunge. When it was a swimming pool, I loved going there. I was a little kid then and boy was it fun. After it closed, it became Skateboard World. I worked there (child labor) when I was in Jr. High sweeping out the bowls. I skated there for years before that was finally bull dozed. Good memories.

The Union Ave Plunge was a great  place when my sister and I would go there in the early to mid 50's. Much more fun than the park pools. Have often wondered how high that diving platform was. Must have been 25-30 Ft.  We will never see anything like that again, the nanny state wouldn't allow it even if you could get Insurance.

The platform was 24' if memory serves me. Used to hear all the old stories about the person who jumped from the platform to the 16' board and then to the 8' board but hit wrong and broke his neck. Bunch of variations to that one. Your right, the Plunge was the best swiming pool ever. Especially in summer when it was 110 degrees and your 12 years old.

Boy, talk about bringing back old memories.  I also remember the old Union Ave. Plunge.  I was a teenage when I last went there.  A great pool.
