Going back to college
With Cal State Bakersfield making the move to Division I, I'll be delving into the personalities behind the teams that make up the Roadrunners' athletic department to go along with interesting tidbits that don't make it into our daily coverage. Also check in for periodic blurbs on what's going on at Bakersfield College.

Smith named Syracuse team captain
Taj Smith, who played at Bakersfield College, was recently named a team captain of the Syracuse football team.
"Our players voted for two people whose actions speak so loudly we can hardly hear them speak," said Syracuse coach Greg Robinson, who played at Garces and BC, in a press release on the Syracuse athletics Web site. "Jameel and Taj have rare work habits and truly inspire others through their actions.”
Senior defensive end Jameel McClain will be the defensive captain.
From the press release: "A 2007 All-American candidate, Smith had 12 receptions for 227 yards and three touchdowns, including a 65-yard touchdown reception at Illinois, in just four games in 2006. Nine of his 12 receptions resulted in either a touchdown or first down for the Orange. He injured his collarbone in the Orange’s fourth game and missed the rest of the season. Smith, who enrolled at Syracuse after playing two years at Bakersfield Community College, was granted a medical hardship by the NCAA and has two years of eligibility remaining."

Taj is a great kid. I believe Syracuse will be on television this weekend.

I think East Carolina is on too, so you may get a look at JR Rogers and Ty Lee, stars from last season's Renegade team.
