Going back to college
With Cal State Bakersfield making the move to Division I, I'll be delving into the personalities behind the teams that make up the Roadrunners' athletic department to go along with interesting tidbits that don't make it into our daily coverage. Also check in for periodic blurbs on what's going on at Bakersfield College.

Norman named Player of the Week — again
It's one thing to have a strong season, it's something entirely different to completely dominate the competition.
Sarah Norman continues to be impressive for Cal State Bakersfield, winning the  NCAA Division I Independent Player of the Week award for the week ending Sept. 23. Norman has won the award for three of five weeks so far in the 2007 season.
Against Saint Mary's Norman collected 32 kills in the match, a career high and a mark that ranks No. 2 on the Roadrunner all–time list for a five–game match. She also had 75 attack attempts versus Saint Mary’s, the No 5 mark on the CSUB list.
Norman leads all NCAA Division I Independent players at 4.60 kills per game for the season. She also ranks No. 1 in points per game, providing 5.18 ppg to the CSUB offense.
Norman shared honors this week with Providence College middle blocker Elizabeth Flynn. Flynn hit .323 while average 3.9 kills and 1.2 blocks per game in three matches last week.

Men's soccer note:
I went on the NCAA.org Web site this evening to check on goalkeeper Steve Trojanowski's stats. They're impressive.
Trojanowski led the NCAA in saves as of Sunday with 62, averaging 6.89 per game. The junior doesn't count in the official rankings and is listed in a reclassifying category, but the numbers are legit.
