Going back to college
With Cal State Bakersfield making the move to Division I, I'll be delving into the personalities behind the teams that make up the Roadrunners' athletic department to go along with interesting tidbits that don't make it into our daily coverage. Also check in for periodic blurbs on what's going on at Bakersfield College.

Bakersfield at Utah State
It's about 6 minutes before tip-off and fans are still filling the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. I got a first-hand look at what it's like in the locker room before and game and I'm sitting courtside with chills.
The 'Runners are a confident group right now. They're not getting a lot of respect here in Logan. The people are great. They all wish the team good luck and say hello. However, they give Bakersfield absolutely no chance. Zack Grasmick gets to guard Jaycee Carroll to open the game, which is sure to be a matchup to watch. Coach Keith Brown made a point to tell his players to ignore the crowd, adding that it is unacceptable to react to anything that comes out of the crowd. The students are sitting right under the basket on Bakersfield's end of the floor. The student section also wraps around one side of the building.
The crowd isn't huge, but it's animated.

At the second media timeout, Bakersfield trails Utah State 16-13. The 'Runners certainly aren't intimidated by the Aggies. Dwuan Rice is looking for his shot and has six points with a pair of 3s. The crowd seems a little unsure right now with the way the 'Runners are playing.

Utah State has taken a 21-15 lead with 6:17 left to play in the first half. The 'Runners have held Jaycee Carroll to just two points, but Chris Session and Stephen DuCharme have eight and six respectively. Dwuan Rice still leads Bakersfield with six.

Jaycee Carroll hit his first field goal of the game, a 3-pointer from the corner, with 1 minute, 1 second left in the half to lead Utah State to a 29-23 lead at the break.
Bakersfield executed its defensive gameplan perfectly, holding Carroll to just six first-half points.
However, the 'Runners are shooting just 27.6 percent from the field, which is the biggest reason for their current deficit. Bakersfield holds a 21-13 advantage on the boards, making the crowd a little tentative thus far.
Remember, Utah State is riding a 42-game regular season win streak against non-conference opponents at the Spectrum.

Bakersfield is keeping it close, the Aggies are leading 37-29 with 15:37 left to play. However, frustration appears to be a problem right now, as the team isn't happy with some of the calls or lack thereof.

Utah State has a double-digit lead for the first time at 41-31 with 11:55 left. Zeke Andrews, who hasn't played much because of foul trouble is shooting two shots.
