Race is a hot topic here BUT so is this weather...
So, what do you plan to do this week when the weather continues to stay in the triple digits? Anything different or special? What type of foods do you prefer when it's sickening hot outside? I know there was a post like this recently, but I couldn't remember when and thought it was fun reading peoples responses. 16 comments from 9 users

OK, I'll go first. It is impossible for me to stay out of the heat. My daughter has soccer practice 2-3 times a week along with her games. I drink lots water, tea and La Rosa lemon-lime Popsicle bars. I also like to do easy sandwiches and finger foods during the summer time. posted by

This heat is terrible. My air conditioning in my car sucks in 111 degree weather. I am ready to move out of this heat....We were on the coast for a few days last week...It is beautiful over there...Maybe it is worth paying a 4000 dollar mortgage payment to have beautiful weather.....or maybe not. posted by

It is 85 + degrees in my south facing kitchen~ so I LOVE Fresh & Easy market. No I do not own stock but I wish I did. Saturday I found a tub of cilantro/lemon humus for 72 cents that paired well with their sesame seed crackers. Got a small pasta salad for 72 cents~ spiral pasta, pesto, whole basil leaves, mozzarella,Parmesan cheese and 4 grape tomatoes~ yummy and cool,a rib of cooked baby backs for $4.00,and a ready to eat shrimp Alfredo for $4.00~ we ate all weekend! That is my favorite thing to do~ about as little as humanely possible!

I *stupidly* decided to make a pot of beans yesterday morning. So I had a boiling pot on the stove for 4 hours. All it did was add humidity and heat to an already hot day. Duh! Then I fried potatoes and sliced up Pyrenees french bread and baked it with garlic and mozzarella on top, and then tossed a salad and cut up a cantaloupe. So it was a big dinner, bigger than usual for summer, but we had friends over for dinner. Tonight we're having leftovers. At least that's one thing about making a big dinner--not having to cook the next day. I've been drinking a lot of iced tea. I have a cold glass of iced tea going all day long. We also bought rainbow sherbet and cones, and we're going to have ice creams here in a little while. Ice cream and popsicles in this weather are absolutely wonderful. Also--I tried the La Rose watermelon popsicles the other day and they were terrible. I'm gonna stick with strawberry from now on. posted by

That reminds me that I need to go to Fresh and Easy and buy the package of red and green grapes to freeze. posted by

We use the stove as little as possible. When we do cook we usually prepare more than we can use. Makes for leftovers to eat cold or microwave. We are fortunate enough to have a pool and splash in that off and on. Even with shade, its hades hot and we don't stay out for long. posted by

Catherine, You should try making a solar oven. I hear it takes the same amount of time to cook beans outside as it does on the stove. You can even use one of those reflective car shades. I was going to make one this weekend with the kids, but I didn't have an oven bag. Here are the instructions. It's very easy. You can even cook frozen pizza in it! posted by

There are more deluxe solar oven designs, but I really like the simplicity of this one. Let me know how it works out for you. posted by

I'm going to Plumberry's today for a retirees lunch. I think I'll skip conventional food and go right for the cold cheesecake. posted by

WHAT! It's too hot for spaghetti. I know exactly what most of the ladies will order. It's what they ALWAYS order, the chicken salad. But not me. I'll go for a tiny salad and a huge dessert. ;-) still dreaming about the Moo Creamery cake. mmmmmmmm
