B of II

Ahhh..Bank of America. That bastion of social sympathy. That towering pie in the sky for those seeking a better life. They are so touched by the plight of illegal immigrants that they are going to begin issuing credit cards to illegals. ILLEGALS! People without social security numbers, valid identification, credit history, OH, and no legal status in America, credit cards! Bank of America my hind leg! YOU try getting such a deal with no verifiable information! Granted the limit will be in the $500 range and interest rates are said to be in the 21% range, but still, this is a raw deal for everyone and this is why.

BofA is not a philanthropic organization. It is a business and it there for one reason, and one reason only. To make money. It doesn't care if you can't pay your bills or feed your family, it only cares if you can make the interest payments and that is bad for the illegals who only understand one line of the ad campaign. NO SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER REQUIRED. This was the brainchild of the president of the Latin American office of Bof A. He is not interested in the plight of his fellow latinos, but rather, he is interested in sucking every last drop of blood from his latino "brothers". That's why it's bad for illegals.

What is to stop these people from maxing the cards out and just not repaying them. No SSN, no ID, how do you tell if someone is honest or not? You have no reliable information concerning them so it would be impossible to go after them with any assurance of success, so would the bank even make the effort? What if a group of 10 people got together and maxed out, say one hundred of these cards using different names, sent the money to Mexico and headed back home where they whould be able to purchase $50,000 in drugs, bring it back here and make millions off the lunacy of our very own BofA? Even if all they did was take it home and get drunk till the 50K ran out, the bank is still out the money. I mean, what's to stop them? Has BofA not been paying attention to the news for the last ten years as illegals commit crimes here and flee across the border, never to be heard from again? And who pays for this financial boo-boo? BofA customers(which I am not, thank God), and possibly even the taxpayers if BofA can figure out a way to get the government to somehow foot the bill.

I am certain that there are many thousands who will do their very best to make good use of this terrible plan, and repay their debts allowing the bank to extend their generosity(but, I am sure, at the same rates). But the facts still remains that these people are here illegally and that is a crime, period. You can spin it any way you like, you can paint it in the colors of a rainbow and scent it with a potpourri, but they are committing a crime and being rewarded for it. It's another example of how the government refuses to step in and uphold the law for fear of being labeled racist bigots and another example of America cowtowing to another third world country, and that's why it's bad for Americans.

Many interesting points I had not even considered yet. I wonder if I could get a credit card using a fake hispanic name and no social securtiy number. This could be a very lucrative way for me to make a little extra cash throughout the year.

My blog is hereThey can get mortgages too, it's not just south of the border, it could be any other country illegal immigrant.  Mind you, they do have to prove at least 2 solid years of income....

If they high tail off with the money, we get to pay for it with higher fees.

Policies on Illegal Immigrants at Odds from the LA times here  this has some good perspective.

The world of Mantricula Consular Cards and Federal Tax Identification cards......

more here and here ..........and here and here

US BANKS THAT ACCEPT ILLEGAL ALIEN ID CARDS here

Did they not just make it a crime for landlords to rent to illegals without documentation?  Am I missing something here?  They can't legally be here, or legally rent a house, or legally get a drivers license, but they can get a bank account and a credit account and the gov't KNOWS about it????   Has the world gone mad?  (don't answer that.)

Several city's and municipalities have tried to make it illegal to rent to illegals..so far two have been tossed out in courts.

I was thinking Los Angeles passed tha ordinance but haven't kept up with it.  The city of WAsco just declared a mass eviction of non documented workers and they showed up at city hall to protest.

when i worked at check city we woudln't even give a loan or cash a paycheck to someone who was trying to use an alien ID card or a Mexico or out of country ID....  we also had a software program that told us if the SSNs they gave us were fake...  and if they were, they got no loan and no check cashing...  we wouldn't even send a western union with those IDs....  i think that's crazy to give an illegal immigrant an credit card i don't care what country they are from....  no credit check?  i can't even get a credit card and i've lived here my whole life and worked since i was 17, they come here with no ID or credit and can get a card.  so they get a card, and if they don't pay there's not way or tracking them...  how totally unfair!

They're being "rewarded" for coming here illegally by this, Moto? I assume you believe they're also being "rewarded" for it whenever a grocery store sells them food without checking on their immigration status, too.....

Sorry to butt in but there's a big difference in selling illegals food for cash so they don't starve to death and giving them credit cards and bank accounts.  They don't need a credit card to feed their kids.

My guess is that with the outcry the bank might give their plan another look.  I have no idea how far the dismay will carry it but a lot of I've heard quite a few people say they will refuse to do any business with BofA now.  People do a lot of what Moto sometimes calls gnashing of theeth but don't follow through.  This may be one of those cases with public outcry.  I never liked them anyway and have always refused to do business with them so it's not hard for me to continue that practice.

Thank You Bank Of America,

All of my accounts will be closed and moved to another bank

The "crime" that they're guilty of isn't even a felony. So to decry this as "rewarding" criminal behavior is about as bad as complaining that a bank issued a credit card to someone with an outstanding speeding ticket.

It will be interesting to see the results of BOA's decision in their bottom line. I was a BOA customer in the 70s until I bounced a rent payment and a car payment because they lost my paycheck. They still had my deposit slip, but somehow the paycheck had vaporized after it had passed through the teller's window. It's very easy to take your money out of one bank and deposit it another. The new bank is quite happy to welcome you.

Did you know that 28% of incarcerated individuals are illegal aliens? Californians pay $1.4 billion to "house" them in prison.

Did you also know illegal aliens can get Food Stamps thanks to The Federation of American Immigration Reform?  California tax-payers pay approximately $1,083 per illegal household.

What is funny is:

A person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he:

* assists an alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him or her to obtain employment, or

* encourages that alien to remain in the U.S. by referring him or her to an employer or by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or

* knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.
