What's to be? What's next?

My good friend Davina learned that her work location will be closed shortly.  She wrote this poem, from the gut, as soon as she heard.  I think it speaks for a lot of people in a similar situation today.

I have Davina's permission to submit this to the paper.

It's rare to see our corporate managers visiting with such short notice
As presumed, they came to serve a purpose
My team received letters and were informed this location will be closed
By August 1st is the date corporate chose
The a/p lady's tears made me feel guilty
Cuz I know her two kids need to stay healthy

My mind is running hand in hand with questions
As I'm also giving myself suggestions
Prepare! Pay off and close accounts
Owe nobody and no-one any amount
Keep only one, the internet or the cable
Cuz soon I might not be able

I called my friend Lynn and sighed the news
She reminded to have faith because God renews
She said, you have a job, stand up and rejoice!
She's right, but I can't help feeling remorse
I was blessed to be excluded from their meeting and notice
But I'm aware, retiring from the place is bogus

What's to be, what's next
Right now, I really appreciate my check
About 30/70 is the scale of my worry
I wish the economy would better in a hurry
One day I know all this will be wiped away
I'll be safe if I keep God in my everyday

I'm glad her employer is giving notice. Mine is being very hush hush about it.  We know it will be very soon, but we hear "well it depends on a few different things" We'll be lucky to get 2 days notice.

The next worry is what happens when the savings run out. Then the unemployment. Then not having gas money to go through the motions of filling out another application or keep another interview appointment. Dreading the mailman because he is delivering "friendly reminders" before they become final notices.

I've been there and done all that. The only good thing I can say about the experience is you find out real fast who your friends are. Treasure them as they come along.

Half of my family is currently out of state.  They were unable to find jobs in Bakersfield. I am so glad they have jobs for now.

Hi darling, thank you for posting my poem....and many THANKS to ones who have submitted a comment. I've had many thoughts about what might happen to me and my family if I was to be laid off, but since it has not occurred, I can not imagine the reality of what I may face. All in all, I feel as though I need to lean on my faith to get me through these changing times. I have a job today so I must perform to the best of my ability. If I should ever lose it, I still need to keep on performing my best in all that I have left. Therefore, when I meet my maker, I've done the best job I can do... all in the faith that my God was going to see me through. Many blessings everyone!

Such sadness to read at the end of the day.  Tomorrow will hopefully bring renewed hope for anyone that is facing or has already faced unemployment.  This is when we should all be banding together....I trust that my God has a plan.  These are hard times for all.  Trust & faith are my inspirations.  May you continue to have the same.

Going through all that right now. My business closed in January and I am so far behind in everything that I have to file bk. I haven't gotten notice from my lender about when they're auctioning my house yet, but they have to wait til after the bk is done ( about 3 months). I found a temporary job, but that's ending very soon (see above). I

'll be leaving Bakersfield as soon as I'm able because of the air. I grew up here and have the asthma to prove it. Now that my kids are coming down with it, and I have no house or job keeping me here, it's time to leave the valley.
