noholdsbarred - > No holds barred -> Speakers against the Westpark alignment
Speakers against the Westpark alignment

Not sure of all the spellings and these aren't exact quotes, just paraphrasing.

Tackboor Tagborian: This is harassment.

Amy Richardson: It's like an abusive relationship.

Tim Stonelake: The human cost is too high.

Brian Self: Hundreds of church going people are against this.

Robert Hartley: This is cruel and unusual punishment imposed on homeowners by the city council.

David Boyd: We've lost our investments based on what we were told by City Hall.

Ernest Morse: We need mass transit for the whole county not more freeways that will allow more people to come to our city.

Stephanie Campbell: It's tough on these folks, but this is a necessity for our community.  I know you're in the hot seat. but if you're planning for the future you're going to have to make these tough decisions.

Ms. Campbell was very brave to speak her piece before a packed house all in opposition. I don't think I could have done it! (and yeah, she was booed)

I said it weeks ago. Cong. Ron Paul said it tonight.

We are wasting our breath on the impossible.

We are quibbling over who said what. When it was said. When nothing is going to happen.

There is no money.

A new plan must be put into the works.

One that sets aside steps for development.

One that will insure property is available for required transportation hubs.

One that requires developers to pay for this infrastructure that in the past and in the future will bring them uncommon wealth.

One that will insure that children who are told three times they can be born and die in the same home. Will learn the true colors of truth and honor.

Did anyone expect any difference this time? Same music different dance is it dancers.

This has been going on for ever, when they find a route that will turn west at General Beale to over 119 to I-5 in when there will be a real chance and only if it is done in the next few years.

The Northwest and the Southwest can all be saved and the smart developers will have virgin land to ruin. Of course all the new business will move south and the northwest and what is now the south west will be left high and dry and full of empty ware houses like central Bakersfield. But that is life.

I own a house in the Westpark area that is very close to California Ave.  I have been following this story and have yet to find a map that indicates exactly what areas will be affected.  I feel that the council is deliberately vague on who will be affected.

I do feel that the Bakersfield streets are overcrowded with cars and something needs to be done.  The sad part of the Westpark plan is the people that will be displaced.  On the street that my house is located, all but 2 homes are occupied by retired people that have lived there for years.

Between the decline in property values and the major improvements that I have made, I stand to lose a substantial amount of money.  This was a retirement investment for me and could put a pinch on me later in life.

After all that is said, I am for the project if it will ease traffic, especially at the rate the city is growing.

I expect you all to boo me just like they did Ms Campbell

There is no map that shows exactly what areas will be affected, because the city is keeping its options open -- or, as you say, being deliberately vague. The road could go pretty much anywhere.

VW,

You have an opinion that may seem fit for many.

If prices were fixed at 2005 values. You would most likely not see or hear a complaint from the crowd. Of course that would kill the project.

This project can not be funded without tax increases. Or HUGE development fee increase.

That is not going to happen in this time of debt induced recession.

Nobody is going to step in next month and offer you a bail out price in a eminent domain action.

If you purchased after 2000. Or you refinanced after 2000. You will lose considerable money.

You are in fact paying rent not a mortgage. But you still must pay the property taxes. You must still pay for the upkeep.

You still must duck the code enforcement team, as they prowl through your neighborhood. :>)

The purpose of this correspondence is to go on record opposing proposed Westside Parkway Routes A and B.

The reasons for opposition are as follows. Route A appears to go through First Assembly of God’s Assembly Manor II located at 5001 Dunsmuir Road.  Assembly Manor II consists of 24 apartments of senior citizens who are members of First Assembly of God Church, 4901 California Avenue.  If Route A is approved, approximately three dozen seniors will displaced, without a home.   Route B also appears to go through First Assembly of God’s Assembly Manor I located at 4801 California Avenue.  Assembly Manor I consist of 36 apartments of senior citizens who are members of First Assembly of God Church.  If Route B is approved approximately 50 plus seniors will be displaced, without a home.   It is my understanding that proposed Route B was defeated by the City Council in 1994.  And in 2001 the Council adopted an Alternate Route 15 thus again avoiding Westpark Alighment.  The decision in the Bakersfield City Council is now to pass the decision to CalTrans.  Councilman David Couch was the only one to show boldness and wisdom by casting the sole dissenting vote against the study.   Sincerely,   Charles H. Conner III., Chairman Assembly Manor Board of Governors First Assembly of God Church 4901 California Avenue Bakersfield, CA   93309

you won't be satisfied until all of Bakersfield looks and acts like Los Angeles and you can't find a good thing in Bakersfield.I am surprised that people don't realized that. I hope that we all see how beautiful it is around Bakersfield.

Plain and simple Westpark homeowners,  businesses, schools, churches, should not be displaced because of the City's inability to foresee the city's growth.  ...We are not just a neighborhood  - we are living, breathing people with families,  pets.    Because of  City's poor planning, and now broken promises Westpark residence are threaten again to have TRIP control the fate of many.   We must continue to protest.  Please don't be quiet over this; we all must get involved and voice our concerns, voice our protest.  Another thing to keep in mind Elections are coming up soon, please consider who you're voting for.
