Have you tried the Owens Valley Career Development Center?  Staff has informed people who may help or steer you in the right direction.

Try the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Owens Valley is Paiute. There is some site around the Grape Vine, I can't remember the name of it though. There are people that work there, they would probably be better help. It was a Yokut's site, but it is right next door so to speak. Just a thought. I can't remember the tribe that was moved to the Tejon Military Reservation. I do know that Gen. Beale brought camels to Tejon to try and create a cavalry mounted on camels. But that is off topic isn't it?

I'm pretty sure there was a Tejon tribe, they filed a lawsuit back in the 20s to get their land back but lost in the Supreme Court.

I believe most of them moved to Cleveland.  Try contacting them at this site  www.clevelandindians.com

Yes there was a Tejon band. Obviously Tejon is not the original name of the tribe, but so much Native American culture was lost during that time. Even up into the early 60s.

What would you like to know about them?? I can most likely find some means of getting ahold of them. My family are Paiutes.

My Handbook of the Indians of California by A.L. Krober does not list a "tribe" of Indians named Tejon. The handbook does list Indian tribes or groups that inhabited the area we know as Tejon and refers to these groups as Tejon Indians. They are: the Serrano Group, the Kitanemuk, the Alliklik, the Vanyume, and of course the Chumash.

That book was written in the 30s. You know, when there were Indian schools and the motto of "Kill the Indian, save the man" was still being tossed around. Don't get me wrong, Kroeber did wonderful work, but things have changed and new information has made itself known. The Tejon Indians were not native to the area, they were brought there for Beale's social experiment. And thus, they became known as Tejon Indians.

Are you referring to the Tejon Reservation tribe?  If so, I do know members of the tribe.  My mother in law was born on the reservation.  Her family members are leaders of the tribe.

Isn't anybody wondering why Lois wants to find them?  She could be wanting to make trouble for them.  It is entirely possible that Lois got screwed by a slot at Chukchansi and a quick thinking cocktail waitress passing by told her that she could get reimbursed by the chief of the Tejon tribe.

Rumor has it that she has a lawyer in tow almost everywhere she goes.

More likely has to do with the Tejon development plans Dril.
