Some thoughts on trash...
You have to scroll through the book talk to get to the social criticism part. But I raise some questions about Bakersfield trash in this article:

Minnesota travels, Twins baseball, books by reporters Kulish and Standaert, and a social criticism of Bakersfield's trashy side

Read it and leave comments here or there, or just talk to your friends about trash over a nice latte.

Interesting article, and I have noticed compared to many other places the valley tends to trash.Perhaps the "just passing through" mentality is in operation~I wrote about this subject myself.Lots of people do not care,"let somebody else do it" ~having been a ground person myself I even had people tell me "hey ~job security for you if I drop my trash" In 1970 I was part of a group who went into the canyon one Saturday with 3 trucks that made 2 runs each to a place which accepted them.I think our goal was to make it to the first camp ground,we worked all day ,still miles away from our goal.Today it is worse.I talk politely to people, pick up what I can when I can..Thanks for the input

Thanks for your words too... I am feeling like I need to write a larger article exposing Bakersfield's trashy side... and to keep doing that until people get sick of the imagery... -n.l.
