Parra bucks her party on gun control vote

In one more sign that Kern County politicians know which side their bread is buttered on, Nicole Parra was the only Democrat in the Assembly to vote against the big gun control bill of the year. It was a measure to require that firing pins and other parts of semiautomatic handguns carry tiny numbers that wold transfer to shell casings when the gun is fired. Gun control advocates and some prominent police officials said it would help identify guns used in murders and trace them to their last legal owner. Critics said it would do no good because criminals wouldn't use a weapon with "microstamping" as it's called.

The bill passed the Assembly 44-29 Monday with most Democrats voting yes and most Republicans voting no. A few from both parties abstained.

Not Nicole. But why did she vote no? Even though everyone knows valley voters don't like the government messing with their guns, she wouldn't say. Her chief of staff, Derek Chernow, said she was too busy to respond to rquests for comment.

Except that we already have a 200-year supply of guns in circulation. So short of this requiring retrofitting of existing pins, this won't do a thing during our lifetimes....

Obviously, this bill was written by non-technical people, who have no idea what they were writing about. The end of a firing pin is so small that anything stamped on the end of it would wear off after only a couple of hundred rounds fired. That's about four boxes of ammo people. A lot of legitimate gun owners go through that much ammo on any given Saturday, at the local firing range.

Knowing this, how could they keep the bad guys from simply grinding them off with Jewelers Rouge? Under magnification, you couldn't tell the difference.

Rather than focusing on the gun or the bullet, we need to focus more on the user. Maybe the guns would get smaller if part of the standard punishment for gun crimes was to have that weapon stuffed where the Sun don't shine...............

Further to that Tony,  anyone with ill intent will immediately alter the firing pin, extractor (on an auto), chamber, even lands and grooves of the bbl at muzzle ...........

These are all the things that leave telltale marks on the case or projectile and believe me the crooks will alter these "points of contact" immediatly.

The law abiding citizens won't.

This is another attempt at Libs to take guns away from the public. That is all.

This is the first thing Hitler did, its the first thing the Libs want to do. Ever wonder why it was called "National Socialist Party (NAZI)....... ????
