Dems get ugly
Bill/Hill vs. Barack. It's been the chatter of cable news the past two days, that they're trading swipes etc. TV pundits have focused on whether it's been good or bad for (the) Clinton(s) to go negative. Certainly they're savvy enough to have accounted for an ugliness backlash. Is the shift to ugly a strategic move, then, and if so what's the strategy? Here's an idea for starters. The race between the eventual D and R nominees will get nasty for sure. Maybe they want to demonstrate early they can handle ugly on both giving and receiving ends. Other explanations? Reactions? Did Monday's D debate help/hurt anyone's impressions of Clinton or Obama?

For a closer look into the background of the Clintons, read CHRISTOPHER ANDERSONS, "AMERICAN EVITA." It will give you a very close look at the Clintons actions behind the scenes. When the Clintons left the White House and were taking all the silver and china, they told the help, "We will be back!" They now are working very hard to make that promise come true.

Bill and Hillary Clinton aren't running a "mom and pop" store for pete's sakes. They're a powerhouse in politics and surround themselves with powerful people. As far as plundering the WH goes, it never happened. Only the gullible and extreme right still believe that garbage. posted by

The Clinton's are expert at playing the "Race Card" especially as regards African Americans. Bill learned it well in Arkansas. He is now doing it, playing Obama like a fiddle. I disagree with Obama 180 degrees on his politics but I actually like him. He stands up to the Clinton's and their "machine" and their wielding of the race card (which includes the blatant manipulation of the "white guilt" ethic). Obama may be misguided in his liberal politics, but he can speak rings around Billy Boy, his bride, and most anyone else out there (with the possible exception of the charlatan two America's trial lawyer). Hillary screwed the pooch night before last when she let Obama get to her and brought out the "slum lord" line. She should have let Bill be the attack dog with Barack having to attack him as an aside. It was working. Now she has engaged him and I think he will win that engagement every time. And I hope he does. I would much prefer a POTUS Barack Obama to HRC! posted by

Barack wasn't totaly innocent either. He questioned Hillary's ethics on something that Bill was responsible for. Hence her answer. "Bill isn't here, I am". posted by

Yeah, but Barack's got a tough row to hoe there. He's faced with defending himself not only from attacks from Hillary but from Bill as well. The Clintons are nothing if not expert triangulators. She can say "Bill isn't here, I am" all she damn well pleases, but poor old Obama's got to answer to Bill's charges because people listen to what he says.. He is very popular and was POTUS. I think what he is doing is unfair! Let Hillary stand on her own cankles.

Conservatives are still repeating the lie about the Clintons stealing from the White House? Long after their darling Ken Starr investigated and said it was a lie? Makes you wonder what else conservatives are lying about. Actually, you can find out by reading Cheeks' posts.

That is the nice thing about And since all the Democratic candidates are non-viable candidates, it is our good fortune that John McCain will ride the truth express to victory 2008. That is the good news; the bad news is that McCain will be riding the victorious geriatric express and on inauguration day he will take the oath with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. Let us hope that his vice guy will be a young man, perhaps, Tucker Carlson, Duncan Hunter or Rush Limbaugh who can finish the term and help prop him up during important meetings. posted by

The Daley's and Kennedy's had at least a generation to perfect their "techniques" that is true. But for relative neophytes, the Clinton's have put together a formidable "network" of "organizations" of committed volunteers, savvy professionals, and fund raising phenoms. Terry McAuliff, James Carvile, etc. could hold seminars. And of course, Bill is about the best there ever has been. Its like the difference between Nuvo Riche and Old Money. posted by

I think that after all the fireworks from the last CNN debate that Americans got a good indication of how low every major political campaign can go. When the Republican machine gets started in August and September with their campaign of fear, this latest dust up will be remembered (if at all) as a genteel get together. posted by

Why do we even put up with Hillary? It's no secret that the reason she is playing so dirty with Obama is that she's angry he stole the spotlight when it was supposed to be her year. I don't even know how she manages to get even half of the vote with all the crap she's pulled, we Democrats are so quick to forget aren't we? Yeah, sure, some people were fans of Bill, whatever, I personally can't stand people who cheat on their wives and then lie about it. But Hillary is not Bill. Why should we let her perpetuate these lies about Obama that her campaign is spreading? Such as: Obama is a Muslim (he's not, he's gone to the same Christian church for 20 years), Obama doesn't put his hand over his heart for the National Anthem or the Pledge of Allegiance), and that he's "inexperienced." Food for thought: Obama has more time in elected office than Hillary! Sure, she was riding Bill's coattails into the White House but that doesn't count! She wasn't held accountable for any decision she made during that time except maybe for that disastrously failed health care plan. Wake up people, she's a Democratic George Bush without a penis (I think). A vote for Hillary is a vote for the decline of this great country. posted by

Random, I guess my point is, why do we give her votes? She just seems like an ugly person on the inside and the radiates around her. She doesn't seem like the type of person I'd ever want to be around and I can't imagine having to listen to her talking and cackling for the next four years if she's elected, which she won't be because all of the Republicans, most of the Independents, and all of the intelligent Democrats I know will be out in full force voting to make sure that she isn't the next President. I'd take a nice guy like John McCain who I maybe differ from on some issues over a liar and dirty politician any day. But... "George W. Bush is George Bush without a penis. What you mean we? The California primary isn't for a week yet. And she won't be getting my vote in the Primary. . I think judgements about her appearance on the inside or the outside are meaningless. She appeals to a lot of voters who affiliate with the Democratic party. I think she's too much of a DLC follower. We need more of a Democrat after decades of Republican nonsense. I'll vote for her in the general if it comes to that. She would be a huge improvement over what we've got now, but so would any random woman off the street. . I don't think John McCain is a "nice guy," but unfortunately he's got that myth built up around him by the same press that doesn't like Clinton. He doesn't have a position on anything that wasn't handed to him, and those are only as firm as his next cue card. The best you can say is that he *CLAIMS* to be against torture. In the past, that was something like the bare-rock minimum to be a human being, not a candidate for President. posted by

I meant, we, the Democrats. You know she'd get clobbered in the General. Actually, on the Best and Worst of Congress list, McCain is one of the top 3 worst followers, basically that means he will break with his party if he feels it's the right thing to do. It was evil-Rove who perpetuated the myth that he's a flip-flopper, the same way he perpetuated the myth that John Kerry was also a flip-flopper and a disgrace to the armed forces even though he fought valiantly. Chico, in what way is he done? As it stands now, he has 38 delegates against Clinton's 36. It's not over til it's over. Robb, what makes you say that? I think she won't pick someone who ran this year because they were all basically against her from the start and Richardson even advised his supporters in Iowa to vote for Barack if he didn't have the requisite 15% for any of the caucuses. I think he decided at that point to put his support behind Obama in a way so that he has a chance of becoming Vice. Then again, it would be like Hillary to choose someone that only 10% of Democrats supported as opposed to Obama who has almost the same amount of support as Clinton herself albeit in groups that don't vote in high numbers. posted by

She'll lose against whomever she ran against. So long as the person she ran against had an IQ of 80 or above that person would win. I didn't think Al Gore was going to lose but he did. I'd vote, in this order, for Giuliani, McCain, Paul, and Huckabee before I voted for her. I can only hope that one of them gets the nomination because if it's Hillary vs. Romney, then I guess I'll just be moving along to Canada where I could care less about the politics and I knew that country wouldn't be destroyed. No need to get testy though, we're all just making predictions and sharing our hopes for who will win come November. Personally, so long as neither Romney or Clinton is in that Oval Office I will be perfectly content. posted by

Dear Reader, Unfortunately "character" doesn't enter Bakersfield.com's equation when it endorses a presidential candidate. If the character of our next U.S. President matters to you then read on. 1969 – While Barack Obama was being raised by a single mother and experiencing a life of racial and cultural diversity , Hillary Clinton was learning the art of triangulation and writing an admiring college thesis on Saul Alinsky whose fifth rule of political agitation was, “Ridicule is man's most potent weapon.” 1979 – While Barack Obama was actively involved in the South African divestment movement to end apartheid, Hillary was reaping profits of almost 10,000% in the futures markets and leaving taxpayers with her real-estate losses in the Savings & Loan bailout. 1989 – While Barack Obama served as the Harvard Law Review’s first black president in its 104 year history, Hillary Clinton then wife of the Arkansas governor was receiving payments from a law firm that was doing the state's business and payments from Wal-Mart where as a board member she remained silent about Wal-Mart’s anti-labor union practices. 1999 – While Barack Obama was securing bipartisan support for health-care reform and passage of low-income tax credits and child care subsidies in the Illinois legislature, Hillary Clinton was supporting her husband's Iraq “regime change” policy and urging him to bomb Yugoslavia in an effort to divert public attention from the president’s marital, legal and ethical misconduct. 2007 – While Barack was promoting a restoration of balance between work and wealth and criticizing special interests for distorting U.S. tax codes, Hillary and her husband were liquidating their blind trust of the nearly $50 million amassed during their years in public office. The character of the next U.S. President does matter. The U.S. needs a uniter not a divider for President as the global economy teeters on the precipice of economic meltdown not unlike the Great Depression. Afterall the Roaring Twenties decade that preceded the Great Depression, like the Irrational Nineties that preceded our current decade, were both a golden age for technology, scandal-plagued politicians, corporate greed, and unrestrained personal debt and speculation.

John Smith, let's not start mocking Alinsky. Ridicule is a very powerful weapon as long as it's convincing and the person you're going after has no sense of humor. Letterman messing up Edwards hair is a good example. If John hadn't laughed, it would have been a killer. Also, Wal-Mart wasn't the company it is now back in '89. When Sam Walton died, things changed a lot. Your citation for 1999 about healthcare ignores the fact that she was attacked for what became known as "Hillarycare". She was the one who took all the lumps for working on a national healthcare plan. I'm not voting for Hillary in the primary (she's my third choice now that Kucinich is out) but talk your guy up rather than trash Hillary. BTW, the recent nastiness with Obama finally pushed me back over to the Edwards camp. I dropped my position as a precinct captian for Obama and handed over my notes. I'll still support him in the general, but I'm working for Edwards now. posted by

I think Obama actually hates the pig Hillary. He should run as an independant if he doesn't get Democrat nomination. It would be interesting to see how that pig Clinton would respond considering any shot she had would be gone without the black vote.
