Democratic battle good news for McCain, Republicans
According to a new poll, the divisive Democratic race bodes well for the Republican hopes of holding on to the White House come November. Among Obama supporters, 20 percent said they would vote for McCain should Clinton win the Democratic nomination, while 19 percent of Clinton supporters said they would do the same should Obama triumph. 15 comments from 7 users

I'm not as worried about HRC's supporters defecting as I am Sen. Hagel foretells rise of a 3rd party - Bellevue Leader which would probably siphon off democrats, independents and frustrated republicas.

The poll doesn't mention how many Republican supporters are defecting to the Democratic candidate because of McCain's nomination. I'm not putting to much emphasis on one poll in one state. posted by

that's because theres not nearly enough to mention, republicans tend to vote on policies and what a politician is probably going to do not just emotion, when you look at the difference between McCain and either Obama or Clinton you are getting a big contrast. Conservative tend not to ever vote for people that are bad for the nation, you know ones that appoint judges that change laws as they interpret them, raise taxes, think the Government is supposed to pay for and take care of everyone even if they don't contribute. lol sorry but its the truth.... Oh and theirs the fact that we republicans are just typical withe Americans, you know hate women and blacks.... posted by

Republican's that don't like McCain, don't like him because he isn't conservative enough. It would be foolish to think many of them are then going to vote for either Democrat, who are certainly more liberal than McCain. posted by

Actually, it is not foolish to think they'll vote Democrat. Just ask Ann Coulter. Not to mention Republicans are already in deep trouble from the Bush's administration's failures, and that McCain hasn't separated himself from Bush. I imagine there will be plenty of Republicans who either vote for the Democrat nominee or won't even vote at all. posted by

I don't agree with the person above me at all and think its based on nothing but the assumed feeling people don't vote on values, positions or anything based on knowledge. the comment above that one is an example of someone that uses logic....
Seriously republicans are going to vote with the argubly two most socialist people in recent memory? You have got to be kidding me... posted by

Socialist? You've got to be kidding me. Typical Republican, or should I say, Fascist Republican attack. As long as McCain does things that shoot himself in the foot, like expressing support for Bush and the Iraq War, he will alienate moderate Republicans and independents, while the more conservative Republicans might even switch or not vote at all. posted by

South High Rebel, you don't understand Republicans at all. You think you do, but you don't. Very few will vote for people that are markedly more Left than McCain. Some may stay home (but we are working on that) but they won't vote for either Socialist candidate the Dems put up. The Dem nominee will be Obaman in any case. Republicans won't vote for him in anything but de minimis numbers. posted by

Really? Last time I checked, Lincoln Chaffee, a liberal Republican in Rhode Island lost his senate seat to an even more liberal Democrat David Whitehouse. Obama is the stronger candidate than Clinton and I guarantee he will take votes away from both Independents and moderate Republicans (specifically the anti-war Bush hating Republicans). And for the last time neither Democrat candidate is a socialist. Neither one of them are calling for a state controlled economy. I think conservatives rather take these two socialist than the fascist McCain. posted by

Yes, calling McCain a fascist is just as ridiculous as calling both Obama and Clinton socialist. BcCain is not a fascist and neither Obama nor Clinton are socialist. So lets move on from these ridiculous stereotypes of both parties... posted by

Yeah, there's a lot of that type of thing going around. We'll see what happens, but I'm thinking that its March and this is the Democrats' long dark tea time of the soul. Watch what happens when people start paying attention to McCain again. posted by

So you guys all hate the socialist aspects of our country? The military is socialist as are the police and firefighters. The big fat Republican bailouts for business: socialist.
