Nader: Obama wants to appeal to 'white guilt'

Ralph Nader's remarks about Barack Obama that were published yesterday are causing a political uproar.

Nader told the Rocky Mountain News that Obama is trying to "talk white" and to appeal to "white guilt."

Not exactly rocket science, this is what you call a no brainer

Exactly--a "no-brainer" for poor Nader.  And here I thought poor Ralph had more smarts than this.

For another ethnic take on the question, oy!  (Language warning.)

Gee you need a language warning for a daily Kos story? my god that seems surprising considering the source, I mean those guys are highly intellectual, unbias, and certainly not just a bunch of hateful people that attack anything that don't like using profanity and other mature tactics.

I'm actually truly shocked that people read stuff from Kos.

If you don't think that Obama and his campaign have made a calculated decision to keep race and discrimination in this race you are just as delusional as my good buddy RF. I would wager the majority of Obama supporter not only couldn't tell me stances on issues or why the things he talks about matters to them, but even further, that other than the fact that he is black most could not distinguish him from Hillary.

Why?  We cuss with the best of 'em over there.  You want effete, tea-party language, try LittleGreenFootballs, mf'er.  Kos gets over half a million visits on an average day.

.

I think that's *ALL* McShrub and Nader have going for them, and they're going to split the racist vote between them.  And yes, most of his policies were quite close to Clinton's, except for that whole voted-for-the-war thing.

You know, while Nader does make a few important points, he could have left out the whole black/white issue.  I agree, RF.. not what I would have expected from him.

I think Nader's comment has some truth to it (even though I didn't hear his comments in their entirety). Obama can't be "too black" or it will scare people. I also believe that he does talk 'white' (politically correct?). I don't think it takes awayf rom his message as much as it is a necessity in the world of politics. he can't wear a du-rag in public or play some Public Enemy at a rally. it would have unintended consequences and, worse, scare people. His church already is "too black" for America.

So, what, all black people talk alike? All black people "act" black? If they don't, then they aren't acting normally? You think that because he's black he cannot be articulate, naturally? You think that his secret wish is to able to play PE at a rally, come out in FUBU clothes, and talk like Jules in Pulp Fiction?

Yea Nancy, I'm not sure why Obama would have made his comment about "being black".

What?  You're blaming Nader on us?  :-)

What you can't be half white and talk white? You MUST be LABELED as ARTICULATE......paaalllleeeease, you racists are getting weak!!!!! Whatever happened to; if you walk like a duck, your a duck, if you talk like a duck your a duck. Well then He's Black, He's White, I guess he can talk anyway he wants now can't he brutha.....

Mattloch, his preacher is articulate and educated. The point I'm trying to make is that there is a bit of a struggle of being "too black".  Look at the uproar that the "fistbump" caused. Black people having been giving "dap" and "bump" for years. It's almost comical that it's being spun in the media (terrorist fist jab, Obama fistbump, etc). It may come across as "too black". I was watching some clips of him in his younger years in Southside Chicago and he was "giving a pound" to som eof his constituents saying "what's up my brother" in the clip. Is he racist? No. Does that scare some people? Yes. It doesn't matter what he labels himself. He will be labeled by us. I see him as black but others may see him as biracial. Some may even see him as just...human. Either way he's still is a great choice for president that has to walk the line of "talking white" and "representin'".

It is sad to watch a man like Nader make comments like these: always go out on the top of your game folks. Guilt~ schmilt...

posted by AudreyB on Jun 27, 2008 at 08:52 AM

Nader sees the world ONLY from Nader's point of view.  He can't understand why Obama's not giving 100% of his attention to those interests which Nader thinks are most important.

So Nader disses him.

That's what being a spoiler IS.

Gore would be president now, if not for Nader.

posted by mattloch on Jun 27, 2008 at 12:22 PM

Actually Audrey, Gore would be president now if it wasn't for Pat Buchanan. Gore would be president right now if it wasn't for five activist judges. Gore would be president right now if Jeb Bush didn't illegally purge voter rolls of minority voters. Nader was hardly the "spoiler" people made him out to be in 2000.

Gore would have won handily if felons could vote.

Illegals too (actually they did)

Democratick circles -- a proud bunch

Oh well Matt, if you're going to insist on the details.
