Security guard confirms Edwards' late-night hotel encounter
It was first reported by the National Enquirer, but the mainstream media wouldn't touch it. Now Sen. John Edwards alleged late-night encounter with Enquirer reporters in a Beverly Hills hotel has been confirmed by FOXNews. Read the story here. Here's what the Enquirer is reporting. Sorry, if you're a blogger with the L.A. Times, you're not allowed to comment on this blog. 53 comments from 20 users

No, Fox News has not "confirmed" that he has a love child and had an affair. Some mysterious "Guard" confirms that some Enquirer Reporters were in the hotel and that Edwards was confronted by them. The Enquirer is such a credible news organization, isn't it?

This blog post is a new low for TBC ... and that's saying something! From the FOX "News" article: "FOXNews.com could not independently confirm the Enquirer's allegations." and "Hunter has said that the father of her child is former Edwards campaign official Andrew Young. The 41-year-old married father of three has also said he is the father." posted by

Also, the reason the LA Times is not allowing registered bloggers to blog on this issue is because The Enquirer is the only source! Perhaps The Bakersfield Californian should have acted like the Times, and not Fox News, in this instance?

Fox News knows that the rumor will mean fact to those that want to believe it, regardless of whether it is true or not. I would not be surprised if they have a list of democratic VP candidates that they will try to hurt whether by truth, inuendo, or outright lies. Such is the M.O. of Rupert. At any rate, even if the story is false, it successfully has eliminated him as a VP candidate. posted by

Asked about it on Thursday at an event in New Orleans, he said: "I have no idea what you're asking about. Nancy, if it will make ya feel better, I will say this, if it is true, then Edwards is an ars. If it's true. As for any Republicans I pick on, it is based on fact. Or at least the facts as I know them. LOL There has been a lot of unsubstantiated rumors about George Bush such as Condi, or the alleged abortion. I believe those allegations less than I do the Edwards one. In Bush's case, however, there are LOTS of substantiated stuff I can batter him on instead. ;) posted by

Anti...once again we agree. I have no problem with opposition citing relevant facts as reasons for not wanting someone in office but all this *he had more affairs, he had a child, he divorced, she divorced* stuff is hogwash. Especially if it's just rumor. Having said that and showing how principled and high minded I am, I have to admit that after listening to the Condi crap and the McCain divorce on here, I wasn't about to let this one go by. catpaw has hit the nail on the head... the true victims here are the woman and her unborn child. She has already admitted to having an affair with a married man, just not Edwards, but rather a campaign manager for Edwards campaign. Basically, the rumors are saying she's lying to save Edwards. Yet logically I just can't see the campaign manager, no matter how much he believes in the candidate, torpedoing his own marriage by saying he had an affair and fathered the child, as one would have to believe if they believe Edwards is really the father. posted by

McCain divorced 26 years ago and the left acts like it was yesterday. They hold grudges longer than Sophias Sicilians. Audrey, you certainly are right about the family. You'd think politicians would give more thought to the effects of their actions on the ones they love. Apparently they just aren't able to do that. Divorces happen all the time. It was the circumstances behind the divorce that people question. And it's not like Bill Clinton's name doesn't pop up 8 years later, or Jimmy Carter's 25 years later, and neither of them are running for President. posted by

Unless the relationship compromises national security, like the John Profumo scandal of the 60's, I don't think it should be reported by the media. These 9 day wonders misdirects our attention from the real problems facing America. Too bad the press doesn't use more discretion in reporting sex scandals that happen in EITHER party. posted by

You are right Audrey. In Europe they laugh at us for even bringing sex into the foray, but we still have our puritanical roots. I'm pretty sure had Clinton pulled his oval office stunt in the Arkansas Governor's Mansion, he would never have become President. To McCain's credit, he did acknowledge that what he did to his first wife was selfish and immature. But those kinds of things go to loyalty and trustworthiness and will have an impact in many voter's minds. To tell you the truth, I probably would have voted for George I over Clinton had I known he would get 'comfort' from an intern. But I still think despite his personal failings, he left the country in good shape until the other George took the wheel. posted by

Audrey, public figures aren't entitled to the same right to privacy that you and I are. Look how much fun people had when the Republicans found out about Karin Stanford and Mr. Jesse (and baby makes three, in My Blue Hea-ven...). Repubs waited two months to make the news public - two weeks before Jesse's big protest bash on inauguration day 2001 was to take place (that bash sorta got itself canceled). How many times has the Enquirer been sued for libel? I never buy the Enquirer. The Weekly World News is much more entertaining.

How many politicians have cheated on their wives, had gay flings or engaged in "edgy" sex acts etc and not been caught. Did their getting away with it make any difference in your lives. No. So why drag the ones to who are unlucky enough or foolish enough to get caught through the maelstrom of public opinion. posted by
