FOX says it's official: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is McCain's VP pick
FOX News just confirmed this from an a senior McCain campaign official. So it looks like we're getting a woman running for vice president after all. With Romney and Pawlenty out, sources are saying Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is McCain's pick. Palin is a first-term governor credited with reforms of her out-of-the-way state. At 44, Palin is younger than Obama and, like McCain, she calls herself a maverick. 185 comments from 34 users

If true, it means McBush is in trouble. He had to go with the surprise pick to get attention. But it's a "slap in the face" to Romney, who got the second-highest number of Republican votes, more than a quarter of the number Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama received. How can he just ignore those five million voters? They'll surely vote for Obama out of spite. Just when Romney had nearly managed to shatter the Great Glass Ceiling that has kept rich white guys from oddball cults from reaching the Naval Observatory... posted by

With luck, maybe the independent investigator will finish his corruption probe of her before the election. http://www.adn.com/monegan/... But McBush has locked down that crucial Alaska vote. Why, they've got almost as many voters as Kern County does! posted by

Interesting choice~ I hear she sure is "easy on the eyes"......ready to lead of goddess, god,or dog forbid McCain should become incapacitated? I bet those millions who voted for Romney will be "mad as wet hens",not going to "retract their claws" and will be "scorned"....oh just keep repeating she is a goodlooking woman~that's sure to get the female vote.

Random: Glad the Californian has a place for you to blow off your "oddball" comment so you don't offend more people. Aside from that bigoted comment, I do agree with your observation that the Romney voters may vote for Obama. I'm considering it. I'm also considering skipping this one. Although Obama's speech was good (8/28), it was just a speech. posted by

Hello angry female voters. Temporarily misandristic female Democrats will be delighted. Sales of Obama Toilet Tissue have skyrocketed since this latest news release. Palin is a mother of five, so the chaotic Washington world won't intimidate her one bit. Biden has a bald spot. That will cost him millions of votes. posted by

Random: Glad the Californian has a place for you to blow off your "oddball" comment Just channeling the Kern County fundies who wouldn't have gone for a Mormon because he isn't a "real" Christian. Like *THEY* are "real" Christians? But the theology of Romney's chosen faith is one of the sillier around. It's like what Scientology might become in a hundred years--if it lasts that long. posted by

Although Obama's speech was good (8/28), it was just a speech. What else would it have been? He's not starting a new religion or anything. (Although I was tickled to see the "Obama salute" in the news coverage of the crowd last night. We gots a sense of humor, we does.) posted by

As a preface, I'm not a political junkie. So my immediate reaction to this is, is McCain nuts? I've never heard of this woman. I don't know how she can help him. Maybe she's a great person who is an excellent pick, but America will have to be educated on that first. Any thought I might have had about voting for McCain just went out the window. I would note that the only thing I kinow about her (from the above picture) is that she has a cute smile. Not a bad qualification -- certainly worked for Parra. posted by

I'm sure she's a great woman. 5 kids AND governor? Wow! I've only got two kids and I can barely keep my house clean. However, what with McCain's age (would be even older than Reagan as pres) picking an unknown is kinda not a good idea. I was really bracing for a Romney or a Condoleeza Rice; maybe Powell. I've never heard of this woman. Does not bode well. posted by

So now the question is, why did Palin's office lie about her being chosen and Palin's location? Looks like we can expect more of the same lies and deception we've seen over the last 8 years if McSame is elected.
"The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who have crossed Sarah." Sounds like a Karl Rove protege.

Cat, Condi Rice was never in the running. McBush goes for younger women, remember? Reagan's not even metaphorically in heaven, Pax. And I think Pat Schroeder answered you neatly when asked how she, as a mother, could be pro-choice. "Because I have a uterus and a brain and they *BOTH* work." . One Alaska reporter said that, "The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who have crossed Sarah." Some information about Governor Sarah Palin 1. Married to Yu'pik eskimo named Todd. (Todd?) 2. Pro life. Belongs to a group called Feminists for Life. (a contradiction of terms) 3. Opposes same Sex marriage 4. Hunts and eats moose 5. Rides Snowmobiles 6. Owns a float plane 7. Has a membership in NRA 8. Used marijuana when in was legal in Alaska, but didn't like it. (Oh sure!) 9. Dismissed Alaska's Commisioner of Public Safety, Monegan, when he refused to fire State trooper Wooten. Wooten just happened to be Palin's brother in law. He was accused of threatening Palin's sister and father during a bitter divorce battle.. 10 Palin made a serious misstep as Governor when she tried to shore up an unprofitable state owned business, the Matanuska Maid Dairy. This dairy was working at a loss and was scheduled to be closed by the Board of Agriculture and Conservation. Palin dismissed the entire board and appointed a new board which voted to keep the Dairy open even though cheaper milk could be offered from Washington. The dairy finally anyway and the state lost it's investment when it could not sell off the dailry's assets. There were no bids. posted by

I've always appreciated the maverick in John McCain, and I am very proud that he hasn't backed down to the likes of Rove, by making this selection. Palin is a fine example of what kind of judgement McCain has. Palin is probably the least experienced and least "country first" of anyone he could have picked. Basically, if anything should happen to McCain who just turned 72, we'd be stuck with a President that has been on a city council and governor for 2 years. Oh yeah, she also got runner up in a beauty contest. Now that's experience we can count on to run the United States of America. Is she ready to be President? I think not. I'll take Obama and Biden any day of the week.
Ooooo, I can't wait for the debates. posted by

Today on NBC says Palin is also runner-up in Miss Alaska Pageant. First the tropy wife and now a beauty contestant. No sexism here. I guess when McCain selects a cabinet, he'll complete his doll collection. And he can say Obama doesn't have experience to be Commander In Chief? Well, McCain's barbie-doll was also mayor of a town I never heard of. She is govenor of Alaska and--this has Biden shuddering--she was runner-up for Miss Alaska. If that doesn't trounce Biden's credentials, I don't know what does. posted by

Used marijuana when in was legal in Alaska, but didn't like it. (Oh sure!) Not everyone does, Audrey. I smoked the stuff on seven or eight occasions, and on the last occasion in 1987, I realized that "I don't like this stuff" (Some people love it, but some obviously don't). Some people become hopelessly addicted to cigarettes. I tried smoking one of the damn things when I was a teenager; no, thank you... posted by
