Major newspapers announce endorsements

Newspapers around the country are making their presidential endorsements.

(The Californian's is due out this Sunday; all its endorsements are scheduled to be published by next Thursday).

Here's a rundown of who's siding with whom. Please add ones you've found as well.

— Christine Bedell, government team leader

Los Angeles TImes for Obama

Boston Herald for McCain

San Francisco Examiner for McCain

St. Louis Post-Dispatch for Obama

Washington Post for Obama

Editor and Publisher says Obama's widening his lead in newspaper endorsements. It's keeping track here.

The Stockton Record, which is a very conservative newspaper (they just loved Pombo), came out for Senator Obama.  The last Democratic presidential candidate they endorsed was FDR, and that was only in 1936.

I think it's so funny when I talk to nearly any conservative in Bakersfield and they claim the Californian is a liberal newspaper and they refuse to read it! Now today the liberal Californian endorses McCain. I'm sorry, but if this is a liberal newspaper, then I must be a socialist! ...oh that's right, I am! I believe in leveling the playing field and "redistribution" of income. I want to take your hard-earned money and give it to the poor and worthless in our society!

This time I am very disappointed in the Californian. This time, you missed the train. Thank God Colin Powell and most of the nation has not.

I HAVE MADE MY POINT PREVIOUSLY AT "OPINION@BAKERSFIELD.COM BUT I CAN'T PASS UP ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY. HOW DOES THE CALIFORNIAN BRING ITSELF TO SUPPORT WHAT COULD POTENTIALLY BE A SARAH PALIN PRESIDENCY? HAVE THE EDITORS, OWNERS, WHOEVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR BEING IRRESPONSIBLE COMPLETELY TAKEN LEAVE OF THEIR SENSES.  THIS WOMAN DOESN'T KNOW WHO THE FIRST FIVE PRESIDENTS WERE MUCH LESS WHAT COUNTRY THE "CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS" ORIGINATED IN. DO YOU GET MY POINT? THAT IS WHY IT ABSOLUTELY DEFIES LOGIC THAT THE CALIFORNIAN COULD ACTUALLY SUPPORT MCCAIN/PALIN KNOWING FULL WELL IF MCCAIN COULD NOT CONTINUE WITH HIS PRESIDENCY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WOULD BE LEFT IN THE HANDS OFSARAH PALIN!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME CALIFORNIAN? ARE WE READY SO SOON TO SAY WHAT A NICE EXPERIMENT IT HAS BEEN AND CALL IT A DAY? CAN I ASK A QUESTION; WHAT IS IN THE WATER UP THERE? I KNOW THE WHOLE ENDORSEMENT WAS AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE IN OCTOBER? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME......I AM CANCELING MY SUBSCRIPTION. THIS IS BIGGER NEWS THAN CELEBRATING OUR NEW PRESIDENTS VICTORY OVER THE FORCES OF SIMPLE MINDS. SERIOUSLY, TELL ME THAT THE CALIFORNIAN ENDORSED MCCAIN/ PALIN AS A WAY TO MAKE THEM FEEL BETTER AFTER THE ELECTION. I CAN'T GET OVER THE FACT THAT THE CALIFORNIAN IS READY FOR MORE OF WHAT THIS NATION HAS GONE THROUGH FOR EIGHT LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG YEARS. IS THE CALIFORNIAN JUST PANDERING TO ITS REPUBLICAN READERS? I MEAN I AM LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT COULD POSSIBLY MAKE SENSE OTHER THAN JUST COMING OUT AND ENDORSING MCCAIN PALIN LIKE THAT TICKET IS NORMAL. YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND CALIFORNIAN, THE SAME PEOPLE WHO RAN BUSHES CAMPAIGN ARE RUNNING MCCAINS--NEOCONS! THEY ARE OF THE FASCIST PERSUASION AND HAVE A DEEP AND ABIDING COMMITTMENT TO DESTROY THIS NATION BY DESRESPECTING EVERY OTHER NATION IT COMES IN CONTACT WITH. THEY BELIEVE THAT SINCE (this is their rational) RONALD REAGAN BROUGHT THE SOVIET UNION TO THEIR KNEES (is that outrageous)THAT WE HAVE A MORAL OBLIGATION TO CONTROL THE WORLD. OBVIOUSLY, THE PLAN WAS TO ESTABLISH A PERMANENT BASE IN IRAQ WHERE WE COULD CONDUCT OPERATIONS AND OWN A PIECE OF THE OIL RICHES. OF COURSE IT DIDN'T WORK OUT THAT WAY BUT IT SURE WAS THE PLAN. CALIFORNIAN YOU DON'T BUY INTO THEIR IDEOLOGY DO YOU? FOR THE SAKE OF THE LEGITIMACY OF YOUR HUMBLE NEWSPAPER PLEASE CHANGE YOUR ENDORSEMENT TO OBAMA/BIDEN. I KNOW ITS UNPRECEDENTED BUT KERN COUNTY WILL FORGIVE YOU ONLY IF YOU ACT NOW.....IF FOR SOME OUTLANDISH UNEXPLAINED OCCURANCE THAT MCCAIN/ PALIN SHOULD STEAL THE ELECTION(since that is the only way they could win) NO ONE IN KERN COUNTY WOULD EVER FORGIVE YOU. NEVER NEVER NEVER YOU WOULD BE LEFT WITH THE STIGMA OF PERPETRATING ANOTHER HORRIFIYING EXPERIMENT IN CONDUCTING WORLD DOMINATION201. 101 WAS CONDUCTED BY BUSHY. YOU KNOW YOU GOTTA KNOW.  I AM DEAD SERIOUS. YOU WOULD HAVE TO MAKE ME MOVE TO COSTA RICA WHERE THERE IS NO STANDING ARMY. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU NOTICED CALIFORNIAN, IF WE DON'T HAVE A WAR EVERY 10-15 YEARS WE HAVE TO INVENT ONE.,
