Recall launched against Ashburn

Bakersfield businessman Michael Moore has served Sen. Roy Ashburn, R-Bakersfield, with recall papers.

He did it Saturday. Ashburn's vote for new taxes in the budget was the reason.

“He made a pledge (to vote against taxes),” Moore said. “He broke that pledge.”

It will take months and more than 42,000 signatures to get the recal on the ballot.

Bakersfield businessman Michael Moore just assured himself the kind of publicity that, money can't buy.

Don't know about you, but I'll be voting for the Democrat.

Isn't Ashburn termed out anyway?

Why yes he is Rf. Another conservative Republican~ spending money(his and ours) on a unnecessary act.

In this case I may send him a couple bucks.  Just as I'd contribute to Palin's candidacy in '12 if she'd run.

Anything to further damage the Republicans.

Of course, Ashburn's reportedly got his eye on Board of Equalization.

Ashburn has confirmed he's running for BOE in 2010. He's termed out for his Senate seat then.

The recall election, if it happens, would probably be in November. That would cut one year off of Ashburn's current term.

What a waste of taxpayer money to have a recall election for a politician who just did something you didn't like and will be out of office in a year anyways. Save the recall election expenses for the politicians that break laws or do something you don't like when they have years left in their terms. Just look what the last major recall election got us in California *points to Arnold*. Now was that money well spent?

The damage has been done. Let it go, Mr. Moore. You'll have a voice at the polls when career-politician-turncoat-Ashburn runs ... AGAIN.

Ashburn knew he'd be skewered by the right-wing, but he cared enough about the people of California to do what had to be done...end the months long deadlock of our California budget.  Kudos to Ashburn!

Moore,

Give it a rest.

Ashburn's vote got the state back on track to repairing the damage done by 9 months of filibuster and inaction by the rest of the republicans.

Ashburn is only looking for his next job ... can't do that without being the republican martyr. It's the "come to atheist" move. Shame on him to mislead his constituents at the end of his term.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet 100 dollars that Moore's little petition drive, never sees the light of day again.

Neo-con's do not understand the word compromise, and there are not enough neo-con's living in Kern County that...

never mind.

Interesting how everyone is criticizing Ashburn.  No one else came up with any great solutions on how to close the $42 billion dollar gudget gap.  No one wants to cut the social programs (welfare, WIC, MediCal, healthy families, mental health, community connection and blah-blah-blah) and no one wants to raise taxes.  You can't have it both ways.  Kudos to Ashburn.  The only legislator who has guts to stand up to the political caucus and save the state from insolvency.  Michael Moore go back to Los Angeles with your KFI friends.

It amazes me how some people clammer for improved government services but do not want to pay the taxes necessary to support them.  Others demand a cut in spending as long as their pet projects are not touched.  Even the spending cuts contained in California's budget did not satisfy the "No New Taxes" diehards who were incapable of compromise even though California's future was at stake.

Roy Ashburn's conservative credentials are beyond question, and he deserves a great deal of credit for his vote.  He put the welfare of California above his own political future, a rarity in this day and age.  Mr. Ashburn is certainly astute enough to know that someone like Michael Moore's would come along and circulate a recall petition. Nevertheless, Mr. Ashburn did the right thing.  He and his two Republican colleagues who voted to approve the budget are to be congratulated, not vilified.

Ashburns abandonment of his conservative principles means he will never (ever) get another vote from me.  He had the opportunity to stand his ground and FORCE a change in the "business as usual" way of doing things - That got us in this stupid stupid mess to begin with.

Until there is a willingness to let EVERYTHING grind to a halt meaningful change will never occur.

ROTFLMAO....sounds like to me that the GOP has some internal issues...but one of these days-they'll get all of their coconuts in a row...HEY !!...ever thought about " Joe the plumber " to fill the position....

A big nothing will happen.  Moore will not get enough signatures.  This Moore is just as loony as the other Michael Moore.
