Rubio might have an opponent
I spoke briefly this morning with first term Hanford City Councilman David Thomas. He confirmed he plans to run for California's 16th Senate District seat. So far the only candidate who has confirmed he's running — and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the fight — is Kern County Supervisor Michael Rubio. Hoping to talk to Thomas more in a bit. 3 comments from 3 users

Ok. Just got off the phone with Mr. Thomas. If I had to use one adjective it would be...earthy. He is a Republican. He likes to punctuate sentances with expletives. He's a dairy man with a dairy in Fresno County. He said he has $1 million of his own money to spend on the race. He said he won't accept a salary if he wins the seat. "People are probably thinking this guy has not chance of winning unless he gets a big party to back him," he said. "The Democratic party and the Republican party are full of crap." (He didn't say crap. He said something else) He thinks state government is completely broken and he wants to get in there and shake things up. "There’s no doubt that the people want a change. There’s no doubt that people are fed up with Democrats and Republicans." posted by

How about these guys keep their money and we elect a candidate based on his or her vision and ability. It's a shame that we continue to elect our politicians based on their personal wealth and / or their ability to get in bed with labor unions. I would personally not vote for a sell-out like Rubio or a Dairy Farmer who brags about having a million bucks. I would prefer another option on that ticket... preferably one with a good solid R next to their name. Yes, government is broken and people want to fix it, but we need to elect someone with the know-how to get it done.
