If Don Flounders waits for the asbestos-related mesothelioma that is ravaging his lungs to kill him, it will be a slow, painful death.

But one day -- maybe just weeks away and at the moment of his choosing -- the 78-year-old plans to drink a bitter mixture of alcohol and pentobarbital, a barbiturate that is used to euthanize pets.

Flounders told ABCNews.com that he flew halfway around the world from his native Australia to obtain the illegal drug in Mexico, which, like Switzerland, is fast becoming one of the recommended destinations for so-called death tourists.

The lethal drug, once widely available in the U.S. as a sleep aid and now used primarily in veterinary medicine, was an ingredient in the fatal cocktails that killed Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland in the 1960s.

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) -- DNA tests confirmed that a body found off the coast of Brazil is that of a priest who disappeared while flying over the Atlantic buoyed by hundreds of brightly colored party balloons, authorities said Tuesday.

The Rev. Adelir Antonio de Carli flies using 1,000 helium-filled balloons on April 20.

The Rev. Adelir Antonio de Carli set off from the Brazilian port city of Paranagua on April 20 strapped to 1,000 helium-filled balloons in an attempt to raise money to build a rest stop and worship center for truckers.

Some may have noticed my absence from the blog the past few days.  It was for a happy reason--a trip out of town with the Best Person I Know to pick up a silly indulgence and maybe drop some cash on a blackjack table.

And so it was until 6 this morning.

We had ten years, some good, some bad.  Too many were in the hospital.

We had five stolen years, snatched from the jaws and enjoyed day by day whether in the hospital or not.

We had 2-1/2 married years and I'm so glad today I never passed up an opportunity to spoil her when I could.  And I never let a day go by without letting her know I loved her.

It was the unexpected event I've been expecting for the past five years.  The day the Best Person I Know failed to wake up beside me.

If I could ask one favor, it's that there be no comments on this blog entry.  I won't lock it, but neither will I return to see any comments that might be left.

I'll be back; don't know exactly when.  Give someone a hug for me.

As the Kern County Board of Supervisors enters the 21st century.

(I don't want SBDO county to provide civil marriages here...I want *KERN COUNTY* to do so at the direction of their new County Clerk.)

Once again a certain Christianist clown shows his lack of faith by deleting posts he cannot answer.

A sad case...
