Chief Rector will undoubtedly tell us how good his department is doing in meeting the Justice Department’s review of his Department. Unfortunately, the truth is that NOTHING HAS CHANGED. My home was raided shortly before dawn a few days before New Year 2008 by a band of uniformed officer in SWAT team cloths and budges hung around their necks for what reason is still unknown to me. My sixteen year old son has the front bedroom so the flashed lights in his window and terrorized him to open the front door or they would knock it down, when my dog came to his protection they yelled at him to secure the dog or they would shoot both. They showed him a picture of some unknown hoodlum as an excuse to invade and harass my home. I was asleep in the back bedroom recovering from pneumonia and was awaked by the dogs barking, I went to the bathroom and got my robe and by the time I went to the front, they were gone and all I saw was the tail lights on their vehicles. Next day I called BPD with no results, I than called the Chief’s office and was advised that he would return my call he never did. I called again and was directed to a lieutenant pained, who turned out to be Lieutenant Paine in the ass. He advised me that he was not on shift at the time so it was not his business; he proceeded to summarily dismiss me and hung up the phone. However they all the law agencies are to same, “to serve” only the right people. I emailed the County and the Sheriffs office hoping that they could share light on this raid as apparently BPD did not want to acknowledge any mistakes. I received no response to my questions from many Supervisors or the Sheriffs office. I emailed gangbuster Michael Rubio to see if he could inquire and received no response either. I than emailed Irma Carson my present Ward rep, she did not respond. It is apparent that as a former officer Rector can say anything, but things have not changed the affluent get the protection of the law and the less affluent get the harassment of the law. These raids are not likely to change in this neighborhood until they shoot me, my son or my dog, by mistake of course. Until than they will be too busy issuing press releases about how good they are as for who conducted the raid and why, your guess is as good as mine. posted by

So they closed their investigation. What were their findings? Or does closed mean, exonerated of all wrong doing? In any case, the BPD is as corrupt as most police agencies, and has been for a long, long time. The best thing to do is prevent them from engaging in revenue generation and limit them to only serving and protecting. This solves both problems of them harrassing and encroaching on the general public and cuts their funding to reduce their unnecessary, bloated numbers.
On a side note, I recommend reading "Mean Justice" written by Edward Humes, in which he covers the corruption of Ed Jagels and the "justice" system in Bakersfield. posted by

Of course the BPD did nothing wrong. Criminals deserve to be arrested, and violent criminals who don't surrender immediately deserve to be shot. No problem there! It's the BPD which has it right, while most other CA police agencies have it wrong. posted by

Wow Luisa. it sounds like all you wanted was an apology. Sometimes they get the wrong address or wrong information. They took off so quickly it sounds like they got the wrong address, which of course, is a most embarrasing situation for a swat team. I can understand that they don't want a lawsuit over it, but it sures sounds like they are inviting one. Oh wait, that won't help in this town either. I guess you should consider yourself lucky your dog, or worse yet, your son didn't get shot. Simply bad police work. posted by

All I want to know is why and who raided my house. I am not interested in a law suit unless they don’t own up, as for an apology they are never sincere anyway. I don’t know if it was an errant raid or but I don’t see any humor in it. The most surprising part of the whole thing was the lieutenant watch commander who just blew off the whole thing and said it was not on his watch. However, I am not complaining, it is normal police behavior in this neighborhood, we all look the same. posted by

Hey I did not expect you to like it, but tell me how did it happen and who was it, your buddies should come out of the closet and be man enough to admit their mistake. But as usual the truth will have to be pried out of you. It is odd that I cannot get an official version but you know all about it. I guess the police system is for friends only. posted by

luisa, if you say it happened at 4am and the "team' was in and out before you could put on your robe to come and protect your teenage son, that just confirms you are a liar. You are a coward if you would let this happen to your son. Any real man would be up in a second to protect his house and family. I find it interesting that you won't give the day/time/address of when you say this happened. It makes me think it never happened at all. posted by

And you are a sick blue bastard. I had been diagnosed with pneumonia the day before so was sleeping soundly from the medication stupid. Why should I give you anything, I provided that to the police, and all the police agencies, now if you have any official capacity tell me so and will gladly give you what I have. The real cowards are guys like you who attack like thieves in the night under the cover of authority hoping that you will meet resistance so you can kill somebody and never have the guts to admit a mistake. But who cares you are an old cop that has just never given up and never retires his Billy club do you? posted by

Sounds like the Calmet team (not sure I spelled that right.) A co worker once had them show up at her door with battering ram tool in hand if they didn't cooperate. She said they DID search her house and up over the roof. Seems someone (neighbor) anonymously reported that they were cooking meth. Not true..but they investigate anyway. posted by

I think the general attitude of this ex-cop spells out plainly the problem with the BPD for anyone willing to notice. Especially if, and most likely, representing the majority of those wearing the badge. Of course publicly bragging about one's retirement wages is certainly commendable as any Gentleman surely does, but the rest is deplorable, accusatory behavior. Good to know where my 10 dollars for no front license plate goes when the armed meter maids catch up to me. posted by

OB..I'm relatively sure that my co worker herself didn't use but I can't vouch for her family or, from what I heard, the number of cars at the house. That always makes people suspicious anyway. As for cooking..nope, not a chance there, especially since they went over the house with a fine toothed comb. Now selling? That's another ball game. Maybe the neighbor had reason to call, maybe not. Considering they had problems over a dog and other tidbits, who knows? When they moved out, the house looked fair and not trashed (I was managing my landlords properties here as he was an absentee landlord) but no evidence of any hanky panky going on. My landlord was contacted by a neighbor and told all this was going on so the visit from the guys in black didn't surprise me. (The eviction was for non payment of rent..not drugs.) Another hint, never rent to family, friends, or co workers. When you have to serve ecivtion papers, it's...ummm...uncomfortable. Pianomangerry. Not likely around here. It's been tried and failed. :-) posted by

"For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil,be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God,an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil." Romans13:3,4 (NAS) Right across the street from me there have been two raids in the last year. Finally, after the last one, the all day and night traffic has stopped. The annoying rap music has stopped, and they even cleaned up thier yard! posted by

Seems to me your BPD down there is a pretty well-oiled machine. Well trained, no nonsense. Plenty of back-up (unlike some rural SO Deputies for instance). Its like a well attended to firearm. You pull the trigger, its gonna fire. Like a firearm though, be sure you control it, safeguard it, and utilize it with discretion. If you have a problem with the BPD, go to those that really run it -- City Mgr, City Council, maybe even the Chief. But not the line staff. They are that gun. Their job is to fire when trigger pulled. And they do. Ask gnagstuhs from LA. They al l talk about SBB -- Suicide By Bako..................... (BTW, Asset Forfeiture Laws are another matter entirely. They have been the moralistic demise of many a Dept. If you opened a car trunk and there were black garbage bags of untraceable bundles of cash to the extent of multiple 7 figures and you happen to pull out a measly few thou to invest for your kids college fund..... how many of you could say you would never do that if you were the only one accountable? Tough call..........)

Nancy -- my comment was directed towards Louis. & nbsp; Louis -- COPs are human and they make mistakes. If that is the case in your raid I think you should try to forgive and forget. Chico -- you got that right --SBB Come over the ridge to rob B-town and they'll send you home in a box! Keeps the streets safe. posted by

I hear you forget and forgive, I will do. In fact after this latest episode and the reaction of I will not commit a crime or be near a crime, Will not report a crime or be a witness in a crime case. I will neither hinder nor help the criminal or the police in anyway. I will avoid contact with any one I suspect as a criminal. I will avoid contact with anyone who is the police or is sympathetic to the police. I will guard against the criminals and the police in the best way I can, but I will avoid the police for any services. I find philosophy of law enforcement as invalid as that of the criminals. Criminals acts are random and illogical, police acts are targeted and just as illogical. I have become as disgusted with Kern law enforcement as with street crime. Law enforcement is arrogant, disrespectful of the ordinary citizen, selective in enforcement and elective in whom they believe they are appointed or elected to serve. Criminal, they are just criminals and crimes are opportunities for them. In essence will not expect anything from law enforcement or will I provide them anything in return. It is only fair. posted by

Thank God for the Consitution. You know, it was never supposed to be the government's role to defend everyone from every evil in the world, we're supposed to defend ourselves. The Founding Fathers were aware of what happens when you require the government for your safety, and then they drafted the 2nd amendment. Most people seem to have a disturbing view of the entire "system" in general. Service and servitude of the government is just about the most un-American things you can do. Now, they've created a monopoly on fear and nobody is safe. We aren't allowed to defend ourselves and cops are the only ones who can kill, and in fact, they're encouraged to. The road to tyranny is paved with good intentions. It's all about control, and certainly seems to be working. posted by

Hopefully Lois if a criminal does invade your house, you won't be all groggy from your medication and leave your teenage son to deal with it. Were the uniformed men you say who came into your house wearing orange jumpsuits and hardhats? If so, maybe they were just a bunch of former CalTrans workers and not really law enforcement. posted by

I don't know if they were CalTrans or not but when they left Lois' hooch it was covered in a big circus-like tent. The neighbors all allowed that it may have just been "Jerry's Fumigation Service". posted by

Actually it works both ways if I witness a crime against you or any member of your family you are on your own. I would never help you or help the other criminal. I will not deal with any accusatory arrogant public servants again. If I die, I die, so what is so bad about that, you arrogant wonderful blueballs. I will take my chances with the other “criminal” so far the score is criminal 0, cops 2 and that tells me who the real bad guys are. Oh and that was a tent, I had to do that after the raid. posted by

Lois, I doubt you will ever witness a crime committed against me or my family, because I seriously doubt that we frequent the same establishments or neighborhoods.
