Greeting from a cool place!
I've been on vacation in Cambria since Monday. I wish I didn't have to leave, but I'm going home tomorrow. The weather has been great here, and I really don't want to go back to that hideous heat after getting used to wearing a sweatshirt all day. On the other hand, I'm looking forward to being home and watching my garden grow again, although I'm not looking forward to the myriad weeds I know I'm going to find. That will not be a fun task. I'm also looking forward to seeing my newborn calf that was born yesterday. I'm disappointed that I didn't get to see it, but I'll get over it. There's always next year, right? Anyhow, while I've been here I've taken quite a few pictures, and some of them even turned out well. I watched the sunset last night and took quite a few pictures, which was interesting because of the fog blocking the sun. That's disappointing. I was hoping to get some good pictures like the ones Casey Christie took in his Morro Bay gallery, but I've gotten nothing like that so far. I have uploaded a few pictures to a new gallery: Cambria -- July 2008. Check them out if you feel like it. I'll add more later, but it takes forever to do the whole thing, so I only feel like adding so many pictures at once. I feel like going back to the beach, so I'll see y'all later. I actually lived in Cambria for awhile. I lived in an apartment above the garage at 6610 Buckley Drive. If I didn't have to work and earn a living, it'd be a great place to live. You're right about the weather, it's nice and cool. Sometimes it's too cool to really enjoy the beach though. Have you been to Hearst Castle? It's really something to see. posted by

That's cool, Tony. I don't think I could actually live in Cambria, because I easily get way too cold. I'd be wearing sweatshirts and jackets all the time. I'd never show my skin...ha ha. It has been pretty nice here right now, but I can't imagine how cold it must get during the winter. Heck, I get cold and freeze in Bakersfield during the winter, and Bakersfield isn't even that cold. It's pretty sad. I'm staying at my brother-in-law's parents' house that they bought two years ago, but they can't live here because they have to work. Exactly what you were talking about. They were renting it out, but I guess the person moved out or something, so they have been staying here during the summer and letting friends stay here. I went to Hearst Castle many, many years ago when I was very young. I don't really remember anything about the castle itself, or really being in Cambria that much, but I do recall seeing zebras. That was awesome. We're not going to go this time because we're leaving tomorrow, but I'll definitely come back to see it again someday. I'd love to get some pictures of it. Of course, I heard that Hearst was a yellow journalist, and I'm not a fan of that at all. But the castle itself is far too interesting to pass up because of something like that, though. posted by

Ditto tonyh. I lived in Morro Bay for several years. Not enough of the post card sunshine. Winter is wet and cold. And foggy. And perpetually overcast. To be sure, there are good things to say about the area, I just couldn't think of enough to want to live there. Heart Castle is worth the time if you've never been or haven't seen it in a long time. One of my favorite activities was driving the scenic route (Hwy. 1) to Monterey. I always tried to bring a friend or relation who'd never done that. Never failed to impress. posted by

Loved your pictures, Robin! I especially loved the first picture of the crab hiding out underneath the seaweed. That was a good one I thought. Also, the picture of the white seagull with the orange beak standing all alone on the shore of the beach was another good one. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself at the beach. And congratulations on your new calf being born! How fun is that??! At least you got to escape the heat for a little while though. posted by

Robin, those are great pics :-) ... really good job. I've said it before, but....I need to start carrying my camera around. I could have kicked myself yesterday evening...went to a wonderful Steak & Seafood Restaurant (great place for a vegetarian-ha!) overlooking Dana Point from the top of a hill, I just loved the scenery...sailboats, kayaks, rowing team, all out doing their thing & I didn't get a shot of any of it...poo! Oh, be sure to take a pic or 2 of your new calf & post those as well - some of my fondest memories are of the baby calves I bottle fed (and when no bottle, they sucked on my fingers and as a kiddo, I got the biggest kick out of this). Thanks again for sharing.

I have a camera in my phone as good as my $600.00 Sony camera. My phone takes a chip just like the camera, just load it into the computer same as the camera. Most times, we don't even bother taking the camera unless we are in need of the flash. Now,,, if I can just get my phone to drive the car, so we can sleep. ;=))) posted by

Thank you, Estella and Blossom. Sorry for not responding; I kept forgetting and my Internet hasn't been working too terribly well since I got home.
