Young voters who helped elect Obama stayed home
RICHMOND, Va. – Last year, 23-year-old Rashida Hill watched the presidential debates, visited the college political party meetings and put a Barack Obama bumper sticker on her townhouse door. She voted for Obama because she felt like the election was about "being a part of something." But on Tuesday, the Virginia Commonwealth University student didn't bother voting in the governor's race because, she said, the candidates didn't give her anything to get excited about. "The simple fact is, unless you put it in front of somebody, they're really not going to seek it out," Hill said. Many of the young, first-time voters who propelled Obama to the presidency stayed home this year, a glaring absence that helped Republicans win governor's races in Virginia and New Jersey. More than 3 million voters who cast ballots in the 2008 presidential election — many of them minorities — failed to show up at the polls in either state. Obama carried Virginia with 52 percent of the vote last year, but only 43 percent of voters surveyed in Associated Press exit polls Tuesday said they had voted for him. Another group that solidified Obama's victory — independents — turned their backs on Democrats this year.

I don't care who said it, or what variation they used. I modified it for the purpose of pointing out that liberals are stupid. Except you molested and distorted a famous quote from one of the smartest men who ever walked the planet. John Stuart Mill was infinitely smarter than you (and perhaps equally as smart as me). I suspect you've never read his work, youngconservative. Perhaps you are too busy reading the works of Mark Levin or Dr. Seuss.

Did those young voters really know what they were voting for? What they got was national debt they'll own by their own doing. This is where an IQ test at the polls would really help. Falling in love with charisma is one thing, but you should also understand repercussions of your decision. Personally, I think most young and old people will vote democrat as they have Utopian vision of how everything should be provided for them. However, one wises up when you pay absurd amount of taxes without much representation and you finally understand that the government isn't looking out for you, they're looking out for themselves. It's only when you come to this realization is when you turn Republican. Other than that, continue to be lulled by their promises and they're charismatic speeches. Just remember, you may have to pay for it all someday - one way or another. posted by

Hell, I campaigned (knocked on doors and made calls) for Obama all over the midwest and California because I wanted to be a part of something. I think healthcare should be a right and it has been proven over the last 30-40 years that a market based solution is not the answer (or they just haven't answered yet). As far as the national debt goes, we've only gone into Obama's budget for a little over 4 weeks. The previous administration came into power with a surplus and relative peace time on the foreign policy front. Things are drastically different now and how could one expect him to inherit such a mess and it magically improves (it is actually)? Just because political leaders share the same party does not mean their agenda is the same. Were the Democrats always about Health Reform or did they just get in lockstep with Obama because that's what he was promoting during his campaign. All Democrats are not created equal. There are times when I don't vote because picking the lesser of evils just doesn't make sense. If I was in Pelosi's district, I'd vote Republican just in hopes of getting her out of office. She's week and stands for nothing other than maintaining power. posted by

The founders of this country had a Utopian vision of a nation of laws, so I think most of us who voted for the winner in the Presidential election share in that vision. There is nothing wrong in believing that things can get better. You republicans and other conservatives on this blog engage in nothing more than sour grapes and personal attacks. You have no principles other than to maintain the status quo and to hell with improving the lives of all Americans. Well, my friends, you lost and you will continue to lose until you pull your heads out of wherever you have them stuck and get with the program. posted by

"...promote the general welfare..." . nor our country having virtually open borders... Who let the Pilgrims in? *THAT* was the big mistake. . nor flirting with socialism.... I just bought her a drink, learnem. All quite innocent. By the way, you *STILL* don't know what socialism is. As I said, the typical, uninformed, outright willfully *DUMB* Republican voter would have dismayed the Founding Fathers. posted by

I love how people are trying to turn what happened on Tuesday into something it's not.
There are a few realities: 1) As stated in another blog, the opposition always wins out in the first election during a new Presidency 2) NJ Gov is a sleazeball full of corruption, and the Democratic candidate for VA Gov. ran a horrible campaign. Of course the youth aren't going to show up for that. posted by
