We can dream. But I'm afraid only in our dreams.

I think you're right.  But it's fun to fantasize...

"spell"...that was a great choice!  Yeah...there's some ol' black magic going on with this guy!

Alas, keep in mind that Elphaba's efforts eventually came to nothing...

I believe that Congress' strategy is to subpoena everybody around him, and figure out what he's guilty of. Then issue the subpoena, and have him take the 5th. Walk straight from the hearing room into court. They have to hit him with a pile of charges, all at once, like a ton of bricks. Nail his hooves to the floor and take turns working him over with a cricket bat. Make sure to have a Dubbya-appointed judge, too, to remove any cries of "activist judges".

I'd personally like to get a hold of his curly tail and give it a big yank!

Mattloch, the ShrubCheney strategy is simply to run out the clock.  It has a good chance of working, too, but I think the hearings will boost Democrats' chances in '08.

Subpoenas won't do all that much to help convict, I fear.  That's why BushRove poisoned the Justice Department.

.

Bush is set to use his veto (which he didn't use at *ALL* with Republican pork) against half-a-dozen bills in the near future, in order to stir up the Congress.  The Republican minority is all for it, as they don't really care about running the country.

.

Did you see Cheney decided the Records Act doesn't apply to his office?

What a retard!  That really chaps my butt!

Which is why Congress can't be "slow-playing" their hand Random. They need to bring subpoenas hard and fast. Hold hearings every day. Make sure each weasel gets tacked to the wall. Enter the '08 election standing in front of a wall covered in pelts. That'll be a stark contrast to the (R) that will claim, "we tried to do nothing, but the Democrats wouldn't let us."

Justice might also rope-a-dope any cases Congress hands them because of the (R) "plants". Justice might take a decade or more to recover. This will be one of Dubbya's highest crimes in the eyes of history.

Bush's veto yesterday was a travesty. Congress needs to hammer on him for that crap, and each and every (R) that doesn't vote to override.

Funny that Cheney doesn't think that law applies, but the "Executive Privilege" does....... He needs to be dragged into court faster than Rove.

Imagine if Bill Clinton had tried any of this.  Why, they'd have *IMPEACHED* him...

The good news about the low rating for Congress is that it *CAN* be turned around by doing the right thing.  The bad news is, I think the Democratic leadership is delaying doing what they know they will have to do, in an attempt to "time" it for maximum effect.

Well...whatever it takes to "git er dun" I guess...just so it gets done!

Cheney decided the Vice President's office doesn't fall under the Executive Branch.

Which also means Cheney can't use executive privilege as an excuse. I hope it comes back and bites him in the ass.

George W. Bush falls below Jimmy Carter's lowest approval point in latest Newsweek poll.

26%.  (Of course, that's higher than Congress' rating at the moment...)

And relevant to this blog, subpoenas voted on the illegal wiretapping program:

Most Wanted Surveillance Documents

  1. Memorandum prepared by former Deputy Attorney General James Comey which, according to Comey, was sent to the White House shortly after March 10, 2004. The memorandum followed a review of the classified surveillance program (to which Comey referred in his May 15, 2007 testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee) and it apparently explained why the Department of Justice in 2004 would not certify the surveillance program as lawful.
  2. Memorandum from Department of Justice former Assistant Attorney General Jack Goldsmith, who participated in the DOJ’s review of the classified surveillance program. This memorandum was attached to the Comey memorandum and was prepared in the same time frame as that document.
  3. Department of Justice Office of Intelligence Policy and Review legal memorandum discussing the classified surveillance program, and drafts of that document. The final document was probably prepared in early March, 2004.
  4. Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) memorandum prepared in early 2004 -- by Comey's account -- laying out OLC’s legal concerns about the classified program.
  5. Memorandum from then-White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales received by Comey shortly after March 10, 2004 that responded to the determination by the Department of Justice not to certify the lawfulness of the classified surveillance program.
  6. January 10, 2007 orders of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court authorizing what the warrantless surveillance program the Administration calls the Terrorist Surveillance Program.
  7. Court order applications related to the FISC authorization of the Terrorist Surveillance Program.

If we impeach Cheney, that would make him eligible for the Hague, since he no longer would have the shield of the office, right?

I'd love to see this corrupt SOB fleeing from some Florida airport in the dead of night to beat an arrest warrant, intending to fly to a non-extradition country.

Love it doubly if the pilot is a true patriot that would fly his butt straight to DC and have him dragged screaming from the plane like one of those internet gambling site owners when they land on US soil.

Love it triply if the arresting FBI officers "accidentally" tripped him at the top of a flight of stairs.

Only hitch would be a friendly prison guard to slip him a "black pill" like Goring. Hell, they could even copy much of Goring's judgement. Last sentences: "There is nothing to be said in mitigation... His guilt is unique in its enormity. The record discloses no excuses for this man"

The way things work now (at least, according to the Vice President):
