talkofthetown - > Talk of the Town -> Rodney King shot in San Bernardino
Rodney King shot in San Bernardino
I don't know what it is about Rodney King that makes me what to proclaim from the rooftops what a pathetic loser he is.

If there was ever someone who could have advanced the cause of black people, but threw it all away in a blanket of self absorption, it is Rodney King.

So while I'm not happy he was shot two or three times with birdshot from a shotgun while he was drunk on a street corner in San Bernardino, it does not surprise me.

None of the wounds to the 42-year-old King are life threatening. He bicycled back to his home in Rialto where he and friends didn't cooperate with the police. Early indications are the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute.

You may recall that King rose to fame by being the victim of a videotaped police beating in 1991 — my take on that was he had it coming but maybe not quite so much — which led to rioting in 1992 when the four officers were acquitted.

King then went on to win $3.8 million in a civil suit. He could have used that to improve his life, get an education and make something of himself. He could have been a great example for all America.

But he didn't because deep in the core of Rodney King is a me-first, slip-sliding jerk.

He had other run-ins with the law, including ramming his SUV into a power pole in 2003 while he was driving under the influence of PCP, for which he was sentenced to 120 days in jail.

What a waste.

It is all in the genes

Genes or not, I must agree with you, steve. The guy is a loser, plain and simple. What good he could have done with that civil award has obviously been forgone in favor of getting stoned and whining. While I felt badly for him when the initial altercation with the cops occurred, I can only feel contempt. I can honestly say that, until reading it on your blog, I had not read about it. It is similar to anything with Spears or Anna Nicole; I usually refuse to give it my attention.

I always thought Rodney King looked like Karl Malone

Hey, I LIKE Rodney King! Some of us made some serious overtime while spending 3 days in L.A. during the riots. However, he did receive the most famous "wood shampoo" ever broadcast on TV.

I don't know how to politely describe Rodney King other than to say, he's the black equivalent to poor white Arkansas trailer trash winning the lottery.  You can give them a large amount of money, but they'll only buy a bigger trailer.

You can take some people out of the ghetto, but you can't always take the ghetto out of them.

All of thsat said........................I have read stories of 'ghetto' kids pulling themselves up out of the mud hole and going on to bigger and better things through their own determination.  Usually, as mentioned in previous blogs, there is a MOM who is pushing, pulling and otherwise encourging those kids to better themselves.  I would wager Rodney King came from a family where his behaviour wa ignored and maybe even condoned as the adults in his life were doing the same.  Making excuses for him? Not me - just an observence. As an adult, he is an idiot!  Not all, but most adults who engage in bad behaviour and the 'me' syndrom have been allowed to be that way all their lives.  Kids are not born bad, they are cultivated along the way to adulthood.  Should they take responsibility after they are grown? Absolutely! But do they know how?  Probably not.

And we should care what happens to Rodney because....why was that again?.....

he was shot two or three times with birdshot from a shotgun

You can mess someone up pretty good with birdshot if you shoot them in the crotch from five feet away. This is merely a theory, of course, but a fairly sound one.

Old blue-

Ghetto or not .....he was beat by cops like you. There is a reason why you are no longer a cop. Were you forced to retire or did you beat a pregnant woman? Something is suspicious about you.

Rodney King is a freaking idiot.

He had other run-ins with the law, including ramming his SUV into a power pole in 2003 while he was driving under the influence of PCP, for which he was sentenced to 120 days in jail.

I believe he is intentionally trying to run into cops...he's broke.

No Timec, I retired on my own terms, and thanks to those who work and pay taxes, unlike your two worthless brothers, I get a VERY nice check once a month. And I NEVER beat a black man in my entire career. I only used the amount of force necessary to gain compliance, as the law allows. :)
posted by ChicoEsquela on Nov 30, 2007 at 07:28 PM

timec............

do you realize what those PR-24's used on Rodney could have done when wielded by someone who really wanted to hurt him rather than just realeasing thier grip on the handle and letting it "slide" over his quadratus biceps and femorus"???

those cops were stupid yes, but they could have broken his bones at the least and killed him within minutes.

they did not. they would not do that now. perhaps that little chippie chick on the scene shoulda just capped him. a woman? no one woulda said a peep......

oh well, go back to straight sticks ....... that'll solve that problem...hahaha!

get real. rodney is shot in the face. didn't hurt anything important. his brain is in his back pocket now

Allow me to correct you....I now have one worthless brother ..one of my brothers now has a JOB! Yeah for him.....I am happy and surprised to hear you have never beat a black man. I just know in my heart that there is something not right about you.

posted by randomfactor on Dec 3, 2007 at 08:08 AM

There are no completely "worthless" brothers, timec.  You may need a transplant some day...

.

Good to know I bother you, Chico.  That means I'm on-target.   Is Rodney King supposed to be grateful that cops didn't kill him?  Am I?

posted by ChicoEsquela on Dec 3, 2007 at 08:16 AM

just because you are such a socialist (you bother me)

other than that I can put up with you :hysterical:

I assume the white girl got tired of your brother laying around all day smoking dope, while she supported him, and made him get a job.
posted by timec on Dec 3, 2007 at 03:04 PM

No she lost her job so he left her and got his own.......He might do alot of things but smoking dope is not one of them. Old blue you are really bothered by my brothers..I wonder why. Every family has a couple of losers (You??) including yours. I know that you have used a woman or a man at some point in your life. They are youngsters...get over it.

posted by OldBlue56 on Dec 3, 2007 at 05:58 PM
timec, I don't even know your brothers, do I? If you were a white woman and you had two lazy white brothers, who let a woman support them, while they drove around in a fancy car, and chose not to work, I would feel the same way. Worthless is worthless, regardless of one's skin color. And yes, even my family has a loser in it. It's my younger brother. He became a democrat and a  defense lawyer.

lol. I was actually empathizing with you for a moment, Oldblue.

If I don't post anything here for a couple of days, please forgive me. I just saw that rapper/gangster/criminal, Pimp C, was found dead in a hotel room today. I don't know why this has affected me the way it has. When John Denver died in a plane crash a few years ago, I wasn't this upset. Rest in peace Pimp C.

No, but I do have a spare doo-rag.

loads of taxes... boo hoo, chico. You don't think you're in the top 1% do you?

Random, you don't bother me one bit. Maybe it's because we're riding the same Wave.

Chico, I'm not sure if you bother me or just keep me in check. Either way, we both love our country, and we both love those bizzaro candidates like Paul & Kucinich who aren't all that different if you think about it.

Now Rodney King on the other hand is a total dumbass. He ended up being famous for being that straw that broke the camel's back in troubled LA in the early 90's. We all know how corrupt some of the LAPD were back then. It was a horrible situation ready to explode. All it took was a reason. Rodney King the taxi driver was the reason.

That will be fine..thanks.  You're very thoughtful.
