Weekend weather

What a weekend for weather! Wind! Rain! Chill in the air!

My family met up at my uncle's cabin in Tehachapi for a few days, and it felt like winter. The clouds surrounded us in the mountains and the drizzle dampened everything but our spirits. With the warm fire in the fireplace, and blankets wrapped around us, it was perfect weather for napping and board games. Even though it was chilly, I was thankful for the respite from the normal end-of-May heat.

How did the weather affect your Memorial Weekend plans? Did you curl up with a book or a movie rather than barbecue in the park like usual?

For all you weather nerds out there, the average max temperature for the end of May is 87 degrees. The high Sunday was 58 degrees! Let's just be glad we weren't reaching for record temperatures. It hit 106 degrees on May 25, 1982!

I loved it.  I can fix fences in the rain, but hauling sackrete in 100-degree weather I don't do so well.

We spent the day planting at our house. We live where you spent your weekend, and we loved the cool weather. I am dreading the summer, and the end of the cool, rainy days.

These past two weekends have me feeling like a drama queen. The first week it was "too hot" and I found myself begging mom to "turn up the air conditioning!" And this last week had me huddled in my sweats pleading for "the sun to come out" and questioning whether it was "january or may?"

Now, after writing this, I feel like more of whiner than before. Just great!

I spent Memorial Day mercilessly pruning some of the mock oranges and pulling seedlings out of my back yard borders. Let me tell you, there is one prolific tree somewhere nearby because the seedlings were popping up not even an inch apart. My normal weeding tool was no match. I gave up after spending an hour and only clearing a couple feet. Even the wet soil wasn't helping much. I'm going to have to buy a garden hoe and try again next weekend. I hope the weather holds until then, because clearing a wannabe forest in the heat is no fun either.
