Miss the Blaze? Maybe a little

So the Blaze may high tail it out of Bakersfield. Too blazing hot for them? Nah. But attendance is poor and Sam Lynn Ball Park has seen better days.

Can you blame the team for wanting to move? Maybe for wanting to move to Virginia.

Wouldn't it be great to turn Sam Lynn into something the whole community can enjoy, semi-pros, clubs and recreational teams alike? Perhaps something like this?

So, will you miss the Blaze? The cheap dogs? The occassional fireworks? The all-American sport? What should be done with Sam Lynn Ball Park?

A big mistake was not to put in a new stadium on Panama and Gosford.  This would place the stadium close to a growing part of the city.  I would attend ball games close to home, and in a new stadium.  Sam Lynn is too old and too far away.  How about a new stadium by Cal State?  The Univeristy could share it with a single A team.

I want the B' Dodgers back! Until they return, I could care less about baseball in Bakersfield.

The Cal State issue was nixed partly because of the beer issue I believe.

I ran across an article the other day that told the reason the batters face the sun.  It seems it was built inside a race track at the old fairgrounds and that was the only way it would fit.  I guess back in the day they didn't have lights for night games so it wasn't a big issue.
