Are the Chinese cheating?
From The Associated Press: Just nine months before the Beijing Olympics, the Chinese government's news agency, Xinhua, reported that gymnast He Kexin was 13, which would have made her ineligible to be on the team that won a gold medal this week.

I'm not so sure that they won't be caught--if in fact they are cheating...past 'Olympions' have been caught and stripped of their medals...this is just one of those things that will take time.... But you got to admit...those are some MIGHTY YOUNG LOOKING 16 yr. olds posted by

It's premature to claim nothing will be done about it. It wasn't until eight years after the 2000 Olympics U.S. track and field runners Antonio Pettigrew and Marion Jones were stripped of their medals for doping by the IOC.

Of course, they are cheating. My puzzlement is, why? Is there an advantage to being a gymnist of such a young age? I'd think there is a big difference between a developing young teen and a more mature 17 or 18 yr. old. posted by

They are probably cheating where they think they can get away with it. The phony opening ceremonies set the tone for their entire olympic contribution. posted by

The chinese have spent a ton of money and built dams and arenas and killed all the ugly people and shipped out all the homeless and conscripted the army into "volunteering" to parade around at the opening ceremonies and inserted "agreeable" computer chips into their heads all for the olympics. Cheating is relatively painless by comparison.
The chinese obviously have something to prove, to themselves and the world. I don't think what they wanted to prove was how creepy they are, though. posted by

Off topic about the cheating. I heard comments about the humidity there and while watching the Dressage saw the riders sweating like crazy and some of the horses soaking wet. Those outdoor events must be miserable. They should have the next summer olympics in Bakersfield. It's hot..but it's a "dry heat." ;-)
