talkofthetown - > Talk of the Town -> Way too much beach volleyball
Way too much beach volleyball

I thought it was just me who was absolutely sick and tired of beach volleyball, then I came across this blog.

Seriously, I've watched NBC's prime time coverage almost every night and I haven't seen one table tennis match or one pursuit bike zooming around the velodrome. I've seen that boring wombat Mary Carillo blathering on about ancient temples and stuff and I've seen Chris Collinsworth making out with Michael Phelps' mom. Why, just last night prime time included the gymnastics gala. GALA I tell you! No medals, no competition, just another chance to see Shawn Johnson and that other chick who says she's Russian but she's on our team. Lukin or something.

Hey, "me" and "I" --- who are you? Own your opinions, please.

Sick and tired of beach volleyball? You heretic! How dare you speak ill of Misty and Kerri! You obviously are either a jealous woman or a homosexual. Slander Jesus or the Virgin Mary if you will, but not those dedicated female athletes of beach volleyball. Watching those women play beach volleyball is...give me a second....poetry---yeah, that's it---those women are poetry when they play.

The rest of what you say, I'll agree with. I'll even add watching the mens swim team is almost as boring as watching Mary Carillo.

If the bike riders and ping-pong players would just put on bikinis, they'd get a whole lot more, um, coverage...

And further, bikes zooming in pursuit in velodrome was broadcast on NBC over the weekend.

So I can watch Misty May.

God, that one was way too easy!

I think they were showing table tennis on CNBC or something. I know they had some spirited badmitton at one point.

Don't be too upset about having to watch beach volleyball. At least it isn't synchronized swimming.

I'm sure the ancient Greeks never thought BMX bike racing would be in the Olympics either.

Mmmmmm beach volleyball. (drooling)

BMX is an Olympic sport now!

Flatulence and Bellyflopping make their Olympic debut in 2012; Air Guitar has to wait until 2016.

I look forward to watching pickup basketball as an olympic sport so that my buddies at MLK park will have something to strive for.

If beach volleyball isn't a sport then neither is "trampoline" and "rhythmic gymnastics". Also how much track do we have to watch to get a little field?

posted by ProgressivePete2 on Aug 21, 2008 at 04:25 PM

Trampoline was totally cool! The Chinese girl that won was amazing!

Beach volleyball girls.

Word.

How about olympic Plinko?

posted by FloridaStateGrad on Aug 21, 2008 at 04:50 PM

There's a number of channels airing olympic coverage pretty much 24/7.  Quit whining.

Way too much beach volleyball on primetime. Put that advertising vehicle dressed up as a pseudo-sport on CNBC where it belongs with all the other business bull they throw down on the network. Show real volleyball if you want to showcase the sport, not just the swoosh on the butts. I have yet to see Usain Bolt win the 100 meter and 200 meter races in record time on the network, fortunately the Internet does have the clips. This is just another  taped, canned and packaged marketing program that only sporadically brings you sport. I sure miss Jim McKay hosting the Roone Arledge produced Olympic coverage on the old ABC.

Even my klds said, oh no not beach volleyball AGAIN....yes quite tired of it.  Couldn't they show something different during primetime?.

FUNNY JBS!

Misty & Kerri got the gold. Those two male beach bums got the gold. Those talented, dedicated, hard-working, well-trained female athletes won't be playing beach volleyball on primetime for another 4 years (boo hoo). But be of good cheer. A rousing tournament of ping-pong starts today. Baseball is being dropped. However, if we started a movement demanding beach baseball, I know it would be added instantly.  Hell, beach cheerleading would draw a crowd. It's the laid back beach lifestyle that attracts the (mostly male) audience, bikinis have nothing to do with it. (Such dirty minds on this site.)

Beach female wrestling should also be considered. Could have them wrestle in mud pits to make it more challenging.

Sorry Laurah,

The original post was written by me.

Here's another interesting thing about the Olympics. In China, the medals table lists China at the top because they've won more golds whereas here the Americans are on top because America has more total medals. In England, Great Britain are listed in third place because they've won the third most golds, but not the third most medals.

Which tally should be considered when deciding who 'won' the Games?

Point system gold worth 3 silver worth 2 bronze worth 1. (IMO)

Grizz, that's exactly what I was thinking...

Yeah Im petioning to get next olympics in my backyard. I'm building a beach volleyball court back there. Unfortunately thats the only sport that could be played back there. I do have a kiddie pool, all NEW world records 1/2 second.

I can't believe the players frolick about whilst sporting those mean-looking wedgies, and while the whole world watches!
