In the last 10 years I've had 4 dogs and 3 were rescued. When I lost my rescued Sissy Dog at about age 7, it took me over a year to be able to take another dog. I had a temporary loss of sanity and went to look at two left of a litter my co worker had and you can imagine the result. Allie was a 7 week old Lab and quickly became the "baby" of the house. Fannie cam next, a beautiful 2 year old Border Collie rescued from the shelter on Mt Vernon. Best frisbee and ball player around. I had her for four months and she injured her spine (paralyzed) and had to be put down. I looked high and low for a smallish dog....one big enough to play with but small enough to be out of the way. Working the way I did the smaller ones were all gone from the shelter by the time I could get there. I was told they go fast because that's what most people want. Enter Zack. I dropped by the SPCA shelter one day and there he sat. He'd been there for 2 weeks and no one had adopted him. I couldn't figure it out..and still can't. He was a 2 year old Westie Cross...completely house broken, well mannered, and absolutely loves kids. Unlike a lot of terreriers, he's pretty calm until he plays with Allie. They're like Mutt and Jeff but have the best times. Burgler alarms? I have two. I have an indoor and an outdoor alarm system that can't be beat. No one other than family comes near this house that they don't let me know and Allie fiercly protects her back yard. When I first moved in here she even scared the heck out of the lady who lives behind me when the lady filled her bird feeders. I doubt I'd ever get another dog that didn't come from a shelter of some kind. You know up front what size the dog is, pretty much know it's temperment, and you save a life. I've found 2 years is a good age as they have mostly passed the stage where they chew up your shoes, furniture, and your underwear. Don't forget Alpha Canine out in the hills..they have some great dogs too. Meet the kids. http://i198.photobucket.com... http://i198.photobucket.com...posted by

Indigenous Americans domesticated dogs poste haste. A funny dichotomy, they called their enemies dogs, but revered their own. Can you figger thet out? posted by

I call my bearded collie my stuffed animal....he just flops most of the time.He is big and hairy (80lbs). He looks like woof woofs dog except he is black.
