GAY PENGUINS!!
Hey my fellow humans, this story is pretty cool http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/... It sheds some light on well homosexuality. For all those nay sayers who claim that it is unnatural for homosexuals to do what they do well, it happens in nature! With other species of animals. Anyways, I just thought it was interesting that the biological parents didn't want that little egg, but they happily snatched it up, all in an effort to be parents. I see no reason why two human homosexuals wouldn't be able to take care of a college, who was unwanted by it's biological parents. 46 comments from 21 users

No one ever said there was no homosexuality in the animal kingdom There are anomalies all throughout nature but that doesn't make it the norm or natural. Care to share which animals other than humans who use sex for pleasure? Animals don't mate outside a mating cycle or season..humans on the other hand.................. posted by

Uh no it doesn't Defy. What it does show is Grumpy naively trying to project a anthropomorphism on a creature whose behavior he has no clue to. It is also interesting the way homosexuals tried to manipulate the results of this pseudo experiment [ Like not allowing zoo officials to provide females for the poor little critters ] It should be interesting to see how many people swallow this kool aid;P posted by

... kool aid? Are you serious? Okay... Well, it's been documented. You can go to germany and watch this for yourself. They're scientific facts. They studied the species and found these conclusive results. Just because you didn't see them with your own eyes doesn't make it unfactual. Doesn't that sound a bit familiar? And the article doesn't say that they stopped. It just says that they got upset in them interfering. So show me proof that they never actually introduced the females to the males. Your argument is grasping at straws. posted by

The purpose of this blog is to show that outside of human beings there are documented cases of homosexuality. Trying to show that it's not a chosen thing or something brought about by the temptations of the flesh or that it can be "cured." You're missing the point. posted by

As I have long tried to explain to some poor people. Calling something scientific doesn't make it that and calling something a fact does not make it that either. LOL okay. Well... that goes for the same of your thoughts and opinions. Because you spout of things from the bible as being fact and because you try and incorporate it in to science doesn't make it scientific. As much as creationist would like it to be. Because god is NOT scientific. posted by

No Defy, YOU'RE missing the point. Nesting on an egg and hatching it is NOT an anomaly. It's not unusual to have a specie where the male helps rear the young. Having sexual relations outside mating seasons or cycles with the same sex in the animal kingdom IS an anomaly just as it is in humans. The other point I'm making and have made all along is that I don't care what people do in their bedroom or who they choose to live with. My not caring does NOT make it natural. Penguins. Criminy. posted by

Wrong Defy, I never confuse faith with science. That is another myth people try to ignorantly brand Christians with. If you read the article closely you will see that the study was prevented from proving if the birds were naturally homosexual or merely reacting to abnormal circumstances ,because the gays were scared to find out the answer and would not let the scientist give the poor bird access to females. Which in my opinion is unnatural and inhumane treatment of animals. The arguments reasoning also fails ,because cannibalism also occurs in nature. So by following that line of reasoning we would then have to agree ,because cannibalism is natural then we shouldn't legally protect society from human cannibals. If you think this argument is ridicules remember Jeffry Dalmer? Last point is that humans are not animals. We have the freedom and the responsibility to choose how we behave. So in conclusion we see the study was prevented from reaching an honest answer. The line of reasoning is false and the basic fact is we are humans who have free will. Now that I have spent a whole 5 minutes answering your question Defy. I am going to enjoy a movie now. So please don't let your feelings get hurt if I don't reply to you for the rest of the night. Good night;) posted by

Well you claim that we are not animals which is a religious argument. Because in according to science we are. having evolved from them. And cannibalism doesn't occur among the species of animals. Sure hunting and eating of other species yes. Carnivores. And I am not ignorant because you do weave religion in to your logic. posted by

Okay, Casooner. 1) Gay people don't have to go to the end of the animal kingdom to prove being gay is a-okay because where is this end? lol sorry that was funny. And if it is an anomaly why does it occur so often in the human species. if its an anomaly it would be a rare occurrence in a genetic make up. Also, what gay crowd? Have you taken an entire concensus of the gay community of bakersfield? state? country? Because not everyone believes we are animals. And I didn't say we were animals, i said science does. I was merely arguing wayfarers point of view and how it's still geared by religion and not actual science. 2) an ant isn't an animal. it's actually an insect. I believe we all learned that in the second grade. 3) Grass is neither an animal or an insect. 4) Yes, i have heard of biased science it happens all the time. Studies done to look at one particular point of view to prove that it's right. And just because one case happens then it must be true. But who are you to say which is and isn't biased science? How do you know what to believe and not believe. 5) isn't kind of pathetic that you just told me i was going to hell. And I'm glad though that if there is a God and I do get judged at the end of my existence it isn't you who is doing the judging. Because I like to think God is a little more understanding than us "humans." posted by

I just like the story about the penguins. The way I understand it, there are about three unattached males who are watching out first for the egg(s) and then the chick(s). We'd have to follow those chicks around to find out whether it's nature or nurture that will make them more like their parents. I joke, of course. I like penguins. I have two lead crystal penguins. Beautiful. I have an old lapel pin penguin with tiny pearls on his chest and head, tiny rubies for his eyes, a gold "tie" and feet, and black wings. He's quite lovely. posted by

so defy you knew you were gay prior to that first same sex kiss? you also didn't have an older gay person trying to persuade you that it was OK to be in touch with these strange feelings as long as they were the recepient of some of the touchy feely being discussed?? Actually, Sioux, i WAS gay before my first male kiss. And no i didn't have some creepy old man telling me being gay was okay. Actually i went to christian school from pre-k to 8th grade and was told by my school and family that being gay was an abomination and i that homosexuals will burn in hell forever because of their sexual perversion. and GUESS WHAT! I still like guys. Always have. Also, if you're going to give that argument about "shoving it in your face" gay people no more "shove" their lifestyle in your face than Christians "shove" their religion in your face. Wearing cross necklaces, t-shirts, hats, carrying around bibles, talking about "I'll pray for you," going door to door to spread the "good word," giving you quotes from the bible to excuse this or that or whatever. so next time you want to use that whole "shoving it in your face" argument check your side of the fence first. Most people I know who are gay aren't really showy and flashy. And! Even if they have some sort of effeminate tendencies people question whether or not their gay, like it matters! And how is their lifestyle shoved in your face! Guys don't make out in public like heterosexual couples. I mean... god! We get it your in love. your in love. Don't get me wrong I don't want to see that if it were two girls or guys. I just don't want to see people doing what should be done in the privacy of their home out in front of everyone. Have some common decency. And those case studies probably were probabl paid for by some religious studies program. And don't talk about something you know nothing about. Because think about it logically, if it were as simple as flipping a switch and it was a simple CHOICE to be gay don't you think a gay person would do it? So that way they don't have to listen to ignorant people like you condemn homosexuality. And if it's just a matter of prayer... ya... did that bud. As did my ex-boyfriend. And yep... still gay.

If you have a group of female chickens, the largest or most dominant will start acting like a rooster. And what about dogs, have you ever seen a male dog start humping another male dog or actually anything in sight. When i first got my Pomeranian he would try and mount my 2lb chihuahua, it was quite hilarious.

Since I haven't seen it addressed, the bonobo chimps are a perfect example of another animal that uses sex outside of reproduction all the time: The species is best characterized as female-centered and egalitarian and as one that substitutes sex for aggression. Whereas in most other species sexual behavior is a fairly distinct category, in the bonobo it is part and parcel of social relations--and not just between males and females. Bonobos engage in sex in virtually every partner combination (although such contact among close family members may be suppressed). And sexual interactions occur more often among bonobos than among other primates. Despite the frequency of sex, the bonobo's rate of reproduction in the wild is about the same as that of the chimpanzee. A female gives birth to a single infant at intervals of between five and six years. So bonobos share at least one very important characteristic with our own species, namely, a partial separation between sex and reproduction. Originally published in Scientific American posted by

TurkeySandwich: There's a pecking order among chickens, too. We had a flock of chickens (several, really), one of which was a pet we'd rescued from certain death, my mother "mothering" it in a shoebox in front of a heater, and that chicken was at the top of the pecking order. To say nothing of which she'd eat out of our hands. She was a sweetie. Queenie was her name. Really and truly. Sad ending, though, which I shall not recount here. posted by

All kinds of stuff occur in nature that is out of the norm. Momma dogs have adopted kittens, different species have mated and even reproduced, I recall from my childhood farmlife a male duck who preferred hens. It would be more interesting to know if the so-called gay penguins live assimilated with all the normally-paired penguins or if they live apart from the herd (or whatever you call a whole bunch of penguins). posted by

What do you think they're going to hold a pride parade every weekend? Dude... your logic is rather fuzzy. Just because someone is accepted doesn't mean they're going to shove their life style even more in to your face. Personally i hate pride parades. It's stupid and flashy and showy and has NO purpose. Ghostriter, I TOTALLY agree. Everyone should keep their opinions to them self. lol... who said that the dinosaurs went gay? lol also it was Charles Darwin who concluded that the dinosaurs hadn't gone extinct but evolved in to birds. ALSO! Wayfarer, you said that they deprived these penguins of female companionship but do you REALLY believe that they kept these 3 penguins separated from the other waddle (lol, i love that one too.) You say that assuming that was what they did. But more than likely they were with the rest of the other penguins, male and female alike, and still chose to be with a male. The ones they spoke of flying in would have been another set to add to the penguins to give them more options, because penguins mate for life. Anyway... i realized that today. posted by

Let them throw tantrums. Bill Donohue does it all the time, and nobody listens anymore. There are legal, structural problems with polygamous marriage that simply do not exist with same-sex marriage. I'd like to see some sort of system devised that would accomodate polygamy, but it's not going to be easy to put together. It'll probably resemble some sort of corporate structure.
