Yet another "sex is power, power is sex" scumbag political leader. Who nevertheless pushes the "family values" scam. This guy obviously *WANTED* to get caught. Like many in his position, I think, the guy loathes himself. He's got a lot of company at the moment. posted by

They play this kind of silly game all the time. Yup.
Also: On the January 6 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, an onscreen caption falsely labeled guest Jimmy Hayes -- a former U.S. representative from Louisiana -- as a Democrat. In fact, Hayes became a Republican in 1995 before leaving the House of Representatives. When co-host Sean Hannity introduced his two guests, Hayes and former Rep. George Nethercutt Jr. (R-WA), he failed to disclose the party affiliation of either, referring to them as "former Louisiana Congressman Jimmy Hayes" and "former Washington Congressman George Nethercutt," respectively. When Hayes began to comment, the onscreen caption falsely listed his party affiliation as "Jimmy Hayes (D)." There was no affiliation listed for Nethercutt. They also labeled Dennis Hastert as a Democrat when he stepped down from the Foley scandal.

Mark Sanford is against gay marriage and defines marriage as one man and one woman. He is also against letting gay couple adopt children." From a Draft-Sanford site. That defintion now includes one man and *TWO* women. Hey, it's biblical... posted by

Sure the Dems have adulterers, Nanc, you just don't want this to turn into a head count cuz the Repubs have a huge lead right now. Fox News sure likes to fool it's sheople by putting Ds behind anyone caught doing anything wrong. I guess by fair and balanced they have to put Ds behind some republicans so that the fornication all evens out. This guy wasn't conservative enough for Republicans anyway. posted by

While serving as a U.S. congressman, Sanford was incredibly critical of his colleagues’ marital misdeeds, including the affairs of former congressman Bob Livingston and President Bill Clinton:
Sanford has also been an opponent of same-sex marriage, saying in 2004, “As Jenny and I are the parents of four little boys, we’ve always taught our kids that marriage was something between a man and a woman.” [The Post and Courier, 2/11/04 posted by

Taxpayers fund Sanford affair Earlier today, Mark Sanford told The State he went to Argentina about 18 months ago on a taxpayer-funded Commerce Department trip.
So he had an affair with a woman from Argentina, and he recently visited there on the taxpayer dime. According to Sanford's travel reports, he spent $21,488 on a trip to Brazil, Argentina, and China. However much of that can be allocated to his trip to Argentina, it still means taxpayers likely spent thousands on his affair. Wow. In addition, Ben Smith notes two taxpayer-funded trips to Argentina made by Sanford in the mid-1990s, though Sanford indicated he met the woman with whom he had the affair eight years ago. posted by

Wow TSM--I can't believe Fox News would do such a thing!!! That bastion of "Fair and Balanced?" Actually, I was watching one of the newscasters on FoxNews over the weekend talk about a missing persons or kidnapping, and then she all of sudden started calling it a murder. I thought, "Did something change in the last 90 seconds?" After the break she came back and, while never admitting to screwing it up, reiterated that it was a kidnapping, but never said that it WASN'T a murder. Kidnapping/murder. Tomato/tomahto. Whatever.

It's not that difficult--first of all is not to do it in the first place, of course. Lots of folks fail at that one. But it remains true that it's almost never the crime, it's the coverup. "Hiking the Appalachian Trail?" Really? As cover for a trip out of the country with customs and passport records and the like? Don't take a company car. Have your paramour come to you, if possible, rather than the reverse. Check in from time to time. If you're away from work, make sure it's an excused absence. Hand over to the lite-gov if you *HAVE* to go out of country. A nice boring cover story about why you're in Argentina would help. At least check the weather so you don't go on about how hot it was in Buenos Aires. Gary Hart teaches us another tip: Don't dare the press to follow you. If you're coming back from an unexplained absence of several days, at least have the forethought to wear a prominent facial bandage and say "no comment" when asked about it. That's how McCain got away with *HIS* dalliances during the '08 campaign. Anyone else want to chime in? posted by

If he was screwing around on the taxpayers dime, he should take a pay cut for the time missed. Other than that, this melodrama is between him and his (much) better half. Let her mete out the justice he deserves with a frying pay and a good attorney. posted by
