Personal attacks on this site. Haven't we had enough?

Strong personalities with differences of opinion can co-exist here without the vicious, hateful namecalling and personal attacks. The latest venom spewed by our Virgil was so totally over the top. I would have reported a violation, but alas, the blog is no longer there. Either Taoking took it down or he was kicked off - again.

How is it possible that Virgil can creep around on these blogs day after day, spamming posts with pictures and deliberately insulting people? In case you missed it, this is what Virgil had to say:

Sam is an insipid hateful cuss who is so certain of his providential inspiration, that he feels it safe to cast aspersions from behind locked doors.

You're an intellectual wimp - a coward and bad witness to the grace of the very god you say to speak for. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

Now, think what you like about Dr. Heath - or anyone else for that matter - but I don't see how anyone could consider this as anything but a personal attack. Dr. Heath has taken all kinds of abuse in the last week or so and I'm sick of it. So what if he doesn't want people like Virgil crapping on his posts. I'm surprised that Virgil can so frequently and consistently violate the terms of service without reprimand.

Thank you VF; Jason allowing this to continue is coming close to being an insult to me as well, not to mention the many that have departed this blog for this very thing being allowed to go on too long. By the way, I reported the violations and those reports remain even if the posts are gone.

Tonyh, as a former board administrator I can see where Jason was coming from with that warning. What Virgil does stays online. Annoying, but online. You threatened physical harm, i.e. to take it offline. That's a BIG line to cross in the eyes of most moderators and administrators. Even if said in jest, it's something that sets off alarm bells regardless of who it is directed against. A threat to commit an actual crime (assault) is a whole different realm than someone who needs a keyboard timeout.

Virgil has nothing to offer to the blogs.  His posts are one line, two if he is feeling chatty.  Then they make no sense whatsoever.  If he goes away, I don't think he will be missed.

The stuff that is flying on some of the blogs lately is out of control.  There are some nasty trolls out there that need to stop hating.

Tony; personal attacks being allowed to continue for too long has chased off many a promising poster. A major problem is when only one or two of us report this cyber bullying it doesn't get the attention it should. And VF; I long ago sent my resume to Jason concering my academic credentials and they are found in all my books in print as well.

Actually,

And, you have no idea where I live. You were just convinced of it ... lol

Violent abusive attacks verses personality dislikes...Tough one :0(

I guess we need to learn to live with it and view different personality clashes on line as we do at work or otherwise, really there is nothing we can do about it.

We all have the right to pick and choose who we can stand and who we positively can't stand.

It's natural to have and make enemy's and to disagree.

I think instead of trying to get everyone booted why not just make your choice of who you will give attention and who you will totally ignore.

If Virgil *EDITED dislikes Sam so bad then why does he keep reading his blogs?

When a blogger states a very mean and over the top opinion (like shown above) it just makes the blogger look bad.

I would rather have my nails yanked out than begin to click on someone's blog post that I don't like or I don't respect.. I just skip it.

We are all adults (I hope) we can get over it.

We ALL say to much at times. So what. Really so darn what!

This: "It's a shame that you, in all your brilliance assumed that I threatened physical harm. Show me where I made that threat? You can't, because I didn't.

I simply demonstrated the lack of anonymity that exists on the internet. With that, perhaps it would be wise to act as though you're addressing people face to face. Nobody gets away with talking to me, face to face like he did. EVER.........

Advice to you: Maybe before YOU respond to a post, you should read it and think about it for a bit before typing your response. Let it sink in. Don't jump to conclusions or make faulty assumptions. It's not appreciated."

is the the most disingenuous string of denials that I have read in an extremely long time.

Tonyh, there is no mistaking what "I know where you live" means. Teenagers try to hide behind 'vague' statements like that all the time, and it doesn't work. We (high school eductors) discipline bullies, thieves, haters, stalkers and all kinds of miscreants on just the amount of foundation supplied by your ill-advised observation.

Please, don't resort to sophomorisms like "you can't prove it!!" when dealing with thinking adults. It does you no good. I mean, continue if you think it is worthwhile, I am just trying to suggest to you that it won't sell. I can guess that it isn't "appreciated" either.

Everybody ignores what I have to say, so I guess that means I don't fit into the crowd, but that's ok, my feelings aren't hurt. That is how it has been my whole life so why change things now just because I am a human being with feelings too.....................oh yeah we all have feelings and opinions......................but we could all be nice and respect those opinions even if we disagree with them....................five people could look at the same thing and come up with five different ideas, opinions, conclusions........it's all in the outlook.....................I have been abused, abandoned and neglected since the day I was born so my outlook on things will be much different than those of someone who grew up in an intact family with loving parents............so which one of us is right in our opinion..............both of us.

Girlsmom, I don't ignore what you have to say.

I responded to a number of your comments over the months, but if you ever came back to read them, you never replied to me, so I have no way of knowing if you ever saw them.

If you post something in hopes of seeing replies, check back.  :)

 Tony,

Don't be silly. You just don't like what I usually have to say. You appear to take what I say personally ... yet,  in fact, I doubt you can find something nasty that I've said.

It still kinda makes you feel uncomfortable, huh ?

You know going back and re-reading what Virgil did write to Sam.

I'd like to say it is far more nice than the words recently slung around a blog calling me and several other ladies names like..whore, bitc, street walker, hags, klan etc...

At least the above was stated without those words thrown in by a fat lip who was trying to use big girl words.

One thing is certain about virgil, he will NEVER answer a question directly. He will ask 5 questions and want an answer, but if you ask 1 question, he ignores it or asks another question. He's been that way since he came on the blogs here.

I bet he was always the last one picked in school when the kids were picking teams...

Vanity:  I for one am sick of it.  Just purely sick.  If somebody wants to talk about somebody else, let him do it on his OWN blog.  But noooooooooo.

posted by Shwaine on Nov 1, 2009 at 07:32 PM

Tonyh, thanks for the attack, but I was pointing out how a board administrator thinks. Telling someone "I know where you live" is an assumed threat to come beat the snot out of them if they don't stay in line. Board administrators do NOT like to see such threats on their forums, even if they are said in jest and the poster would never follow through on it.

It's just one of those tenents of online posting. Keep the disagreements online. No references to going to where people live or work. No threats to call them or their bosses. Any threats to break the boundaries and take an online disagreement to real-life is going to be QUICKLY acted upon by any responsible forum administrator.

Jason was just doing his job in that respects. Yet here you whine that he wasn't being fair and further you attack me for pointing out a common point-of-view amongst administrators. You have a problem Tonyh.

Girlsmom had it right on.

Just everyone's different views of the same. Some take it well, some don't.

Virgil's one liners don't bother me at all, never have thought twice about him being off topic cause we all do it.

I was on the blog at the time Tonyh's comment  about knowing were Virgil lived was posted. I didn't think it sounded like a "I'm gonna beat you up" post.

Posting online opens you up for a lot of things. It's reality people.  If you can't hang then just excuse yourself from the blog or dig in and scrap.

It can go from boring, to mean to vicious, to boring again in moments.

I wasn't playing "Judge and Jury" Tonyh. I was trying to explain to you the mindset of administrators so you would know why such phrases are frowned upon REGARDLESS of the context of the blog. It's one of those lines that just are NOT crossed, regardless of the provocations. Just like cussing. It would do you well to remember that the next time you feel like treating a blogger with the same intimidation you would try on people in real life.

Insight? Incite?

This post seems like a personal attack on Virgil for a comment he made to Sam Heath, and yet Sam Heath did not post this blog topic. Maybe some of you don't like Virgil's style. Maybe you could try to ignore the comments he posts that you find annoying, or off topic, or when he posts an opinion you disagree with. Or maybe, you could think about the post and try to understand the nuance and humor coming from a very different perpsective than yours.

Why so hostile Vanity and Tony?

You see what I mean virgil?  You couldn't resist saying something that was so far out it makes no sense.  Again, you're not addressing insults, you're making accusations..and insults.  Those are the kind of digs you do all the time and act so innocent when you do it.  You are NOT a stupid man, I've seen some of your writing when you actually sounded like an adult.  You seem to get some perverse pleasure in making digs ALL the time with that "aw shucks" manner and when called on it you're just misunderstood.

I've brought this up to you many time and have tried to reason with you but you have an agenda...and you're hell bent on continuing your faux naivety.  A lot of us see through it and aren't buying it...and some of us are sick of it.  If you don't like being dogpiled then stop sticking your little needles into everyone on the right.

Provoked?  You have GOT to be kidding.  Your spamming one line after another is an attempt too get someone to bite...and that, is provoking others.  Your stock in trade.

I'd tell you to put your needle away but it's obvious you love the attention.

He states his opinion and you bag on it.

Nancy,

You allowed sam to attack other bloggers ( me ) from you're locked thread,  because of his cowardice . Hence,  the Hateful cuss remark ( that you failed to copy completely) from me in the context of another now deleted thread where sam was rude towards the sponsor of that thread. In fact, I think it was sam who actually chased him off these boards - some new blogger, TaoKing.  He's gone now.

I actually didn't expect Sam to post at me on Alicen's thread; he called me a liar ( not, for first time ).

Tina, I think you've missed the point.  Virgil needles people with cutesy little insults all the time and then cries foul when called on it.  "Crapping" on a blog isn't my word originally, I used it because that was  what vanity called it andit made sense.  I call it spamming or graffitti.

I've ignored him as much as possible and yet he continues to make his little commets on things I've said.  Now and then I respond and then kick myself..again.  It get old, I'm tired of it, and apparently so are others.

As for me repeating what he posted..he asked me to show him where he used h"hate"..and I did.
