zeropointzero - > Zero Point Zero -> Bill Belichick a Super sourpuss
Bill Belichick a Super sourpuss

I started out Super Bowl XLII not caring much who won, I just wanted a good game. But that changed long before the Giants embarked on their memorable game-winning touchdown drive. It changed in the third quarter the moment Patriots coach Bill Belichick dropped his red challenge hankie on the field, gutlessly seeking a ticky-tack penalty against New York for having 12 players on the field.

He had noticed that a Giant linebacker was frantically trying to get off the field as the Patriots lined up for a play, and that he had failed by a half step to reach the sideline. The replays proved him right and the Patriots got a critical first down out of the deal. That's not a penalty in hockey by the way, not when you're that close to the bench, and the NFL should rewrite its rules so that players making an effort to get off the field and are within a few feet of doing so are not penalized.

During his announcement to the crowd and zillions of  TV viewers I almost  got the sense that the referee felt embarrassed for Belichick. Coach was well within his rights and he was seeking every edge he could get, needing, unexpectedly, every edge he could get, but from that point on, like Strahan on Brady, I was all over being a BIG Giants fan.

Then came Belichick's exit from the field with still one second left and the stiff, typically uninsightful remarks during the post game interview. The Patriots are a phenomenal  football team that probably deserved better fate, but because of their coach, I'm shedding no tears for them this morning.

I'm still giddy that the Giants won. I can't stand Belichick. He got caught cheating, never apologized, most likely continued to cheat and almost got away with it. He showed his true colors and his true disrespect for his opponent and the game by bolting before it was officially over. He is not only a sore winner, but a sore loser as well. I did notice that the officiating which usually goes overboard to give the Pats a break and an advantage were not on their side for the SB. The most glaring was a measurement for a crucial Giants 1st down where the chain wasn't even close to tight. I don't recall ever seeing anything so blatant, but who cares, Manning & co. won and Tom (haircut) Brady & co lost. What a perfect ending to an ***asterisk*** of a season.

You have to wonder what old Billo was thinking bolting with one play left before the official end. I am intrigued by what is happening with "Spygate" and Roger Goodell coming under the bright light focus of Congress over his handling of the affair. It was interesting to see spy footage (when everyone was told all evidence had been destroyed back in September 2007) surface on Fox this weekend with fresh allegations about film spying  during the 2002 Super Bowl. From all accounts many reporters have been trying to dig into this stonewalled story for months, but have had no access to Goodell until this past Super Bowl week. This game was a fitting conclusion to a very bizarre NFL season.

Now the real fun starts as Arlen Specter starts asking questions about why the videos of last year's Patriots' taping of opponents were destroyed by the NFL commissioner.

And two days before this year's Super Bowl we find out the Patriots' surprising win over the St. Louis Rams in the Super Bowl may have been from cheating as well. The Pats' taped the Rams' last practice before the Super Bowl.

TSM- shhhhh- my husband is a dye hard Rams fan, he heard about the Pats taping the Rams thing and went ballistic. You should have heard him ranting about it last night when the Giants beat the Pats, mumbling something about cheaters and such as he screamed and cheered on the Giants......it was very comical. He even woke up this morning still ranting about it. Don't get him started again....lol

He was a sour puss..especially for a cheater.

The Pats didn't need to cheat. Or get pO'd with the outcome either.

If you get manhandled on both sides of the ball on the line, then you are not going to win in NFL. Simple as that.

If you don't expect and plan for blitzing, stunts, non-traditional movements and line-ups, whatever the line and line backers throw at you, etc. then you deserve to lose. I watched some of the indiv matchups and the Giants DE's and LB's were doing simple "swim" manuevers, etc. and going right around the NE linemen. I didn't blame Brady for being pissed off (but I enjoyed it).

They got their heads handed to them on a "giant" platter.

I know Neal had been a bit busted up (knees) during season but he had to be 75% or less. You cannot have key players like that stay in that long in not 100% without having planned for it. Brady's been letting "something" get inside his head lately and it starts with a "p" and ends with a "y" IMO.

And the coach was an a$$...........no class..............

What's ironic about the video taping allegations and acknowledgments so far is that New England is the most impenetrable team in the NFL in terms of getting injury updates, fresh news, the real truth about anything, or something as innocuous as landing a phone interview. It often seems that the only way to get something fresh out of Patriots camp is to somehow plant a video camera in there. I've experienced the frustration myself in getting updates on and interviews with Stephen Neal, and I've read accounts by other scribes frustrated over the tight stranglehold Belichick has on information coming out of camp. Because of all this, it's hard to warm up to the Patriots, even though they have some really fun players to watch — Wes Welker in particular.

And speaking of Neal, the Giants just ran over his replacement yesterday, not that the CSUB product wasn't having some difficulty keeping pass rushers off Brady before he went out with a knee injury in the second quarter.

I think Neal was nicked up prior to super bowl.

Wes Welker has some of the fastest feet I've ever seen. Lateral moves, stutter steps, some so fast his feet are a blur.

Neal has a few years left in him no matter what. He could go elsewhere.

Yes his repl was look-out blocking too. Thats what I meant by having a good repl ready.

They didn't.

From "Corn Nation"

From what I saw, Hochstein didn't have a good game. He replaced injured Patriot right guard Stephen Neal in the second quarter. He gave up a sack late in the to Giants' rookie Alford, and I believe he got called for a holding penalty on a kick return. On the other hand, the Pats offensive line had a helluva time handling the Giants defensive line as Tom Brady was harassed all night. If you like line play, it was a beautiful game to watch

I agree

Im quite sure the Pats were devastated as well as exhausted I wanted to see Jr. Seau get his ring he soooo deserves. But like you said; Sunday was not the day. Team Easy E came up big and Michael Strahan got what he sooooo deserved. along with the rest of the team of course. As far as the spygate? The Pats are guilty of nothing no other team has or is doing. They just got caught. Every team OK's from the opposite team before each game the right to film from the end zones. The Pats just got caught taping hand signs. I;m quite sure each team has a plant somewhere of somekind ,film or picture or memory or infiltrate to obtain the same information. Now to what you called The Real Fun? Why on earth, with all the homless families, the irac war, the falling economy, and the many other catastrophic problems America has right now, do we need to pay Arlen Specter to worry about WHO WROTE THE FOOTBALL NOTE?Does he not have enough to do? I am appalled that congress would step in to the NFL over a taping incident that didn't involve anybody's health and wealfare. I say increase my special tax retun and save Roger Goodell; time, the media time.Assign Arlen Spector a real job, remove him from any committee, he has proven that he cannot prioritize the needs of his leadership buy him a 42" TV and a dvd player!
